Shortly after the announcement of the new U.S. Cup Mountain Bike Series, USA Cycling has announced that seven of the events will comprise the new Pro XCT (Cross Country Tour), giving pro teams and athletes the opportunity to race for nationally recognized points which will ultimately help decide who represents the U.S. in London in the 2012 Olympics.
My guess is the schedule is focused on XC only (for now) since developing Olympic-level talent and representation appears to be a primary goal of the series.  The full press release is here, and schedule is below:
ÂÂ
March 29: U.S. Cup – Fontana, Calif.
April 19: Sea Otter Classic – Monterey, Calif.
May 31: Bump N’ Grind – Birmingham, Ala.
June 13: Carmichael Training Systems Sand Creek International Classic – Colorado Springs, Colo.
August 8: U.S. Cup – Mount Snow, West Dover, Vt.
August 15: Yankee Clipper at Windham Mountain, Windham, N.Y.
