VANDEYK Introduces F1 Inspired 1.9 lb Carbon Machine for Riding

Vandyk Machine For RidingWhen a company has built a reputation around beautiful (albeit unusually named) columbus steel road and mountain bike frames, it’s only logical they seek out the very best composite engineers possible when attempting to build their first carbon road frame. In this case, Vandeyk sought out former Formula 1 engineer Ralf Brand.

With his materials expertise the company has created the 1.9 lb (870 gram, size 56) Machine for Riding. Built entirely in Germany and available in six different sizes, with custom geometry upon request, the frameset (frame, Chris King headset, Enve fork) will retail for $6,300 US (5,950 EUR).

Nice look, but not sure what to think about this……turns into a lame story once you realize it is made by ax-lightness. The AX guys probably don´t sell enough of their own frames 😉
Looks like F1 suppliers need to keep their workshop busy……

Hmmm I just don’t like the “squared” tube, seems very ugly (and the price too).

This is kind of lame to be honest. Ultra crazy non disc road frames are kind of dead to me.
I was die hard for rim brakes on the road too until about six months ago when i have a go on my friends disc road bike. Since then, i dont think i will buy one again and every time i see a high tech road frame without discs they look antiquated. Dont get me wrong discs can still look really bad on some bikes, but they are far better than rim brakes in almost ever way.

To sum it up, this bike missed the mark by a long shot. It should have discs on it, not some bit of ruber slowly wearing away the carbon rims.

Let’s see….

-No replaceable dropout
-Nothing special frame design
-Relatively unheard of company
-No serious, straight-on, full bike pics
-Not the lightest
-Custom geo not included
-Questionable warranty

All that for $6300 for the frameset only. What a deal!

@Ilikeicedtea – USA today is reporting 5,220,000 millionaire households. CNBC reports about 9,000,000 millionaire households. Merill Lynch reports closer to 4,500,000 millionaire households. Credit Suisse reports 11,000,000, which is the closest I can find to your number. From what I read you’re over estimating the number of US millionaire households by somewhere between 20-300%.

Either way, that’s a lot of people with money, but you don’t need to be a millionaire to buy an expensive bike.

Altobici – although i get your point, I have to disagree. As harsh as the peanut gallery can be here, that is also its beauty imo. The fact that they allow anonymity, and that folks are critical does help designers and producers. It’s far better and more honest than the fufu bullshit you will find in social media, with it’s phony and shilled out “transparency”.

More power to bikerumor. Bring on the criticisms, it will drive better quality by brutal honesty.

In the day and age when you can buy a 845g frame on EBAY for $500, this really is not that special. Now if there was something special about the frame with some new ideas, then sure but just another expensive frame.

what is unproven about disc brakes? ever race car, motocyle, mountain bike, scooter, and nearly ever vehicle made now uses disc brakes. what the hell is unproven about a disc brake?
Do you pine after drum brakes and balloon tires? No, because they aren’t as good as what we have now. Sure rim brakes work, so do muskets and bayonets but we have evolved beyond using them for more than novelty, much like we should with rim brakes all together.

Disc brakes add a ridiculous amount of drag to a road bike. Think about the difference between a S5 and a 1920s Tour de France bike in terms of aero. That’s pretty much how much drag disc brakes put back on to a bike.

It’s starting to get a little annoying that everytime Bikerumor intros or reviews a new bike people always chime in with “Where are the discs?” As if discs are as common on road bikes as handlebars. Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it has to be on every “new” bike. Geez, HTFU and stop whining about discs already.

Square tubing isn’t supposed to be pretty or “hot” its supposed to be really stiff in the direction they want it to be. Its built to perform not just look pretty.
