VeloToze’s new Roam shoe covers are a completely new take on the long-running fully-waterproof latex cycling shoe protection. Scaled up to fit on a wide range of casual street, boardroom-ready & even flat pedal cycling shoes, the new Roam covers are said to have reinforced, grippy soles that you can walk or pedal in, and promise to be usable “again and again”.
VeloToze Roam waterproof shoe covers for everyday protection
To anyone who has used standard VeloToze latex cycling shoe covers to keep their feet dry and out of cold wind, these look like a great idea but maybe a little suspect? Tight-fitting VeloToze covers offer complete protection from the elements (at least where they cover your shoe) but can be both difficult to get on & off, to the point that they are easy enough to rip that some riders consider them single-use-only.
I’ve personally had great results with both tall & short MTB covers and keep them around as a foul-weather backup plan. But even with those heavier covers tend to end up torn after several uses (I probably lose one cover out of the pair for every five times or so that I wear them.)
Street shoe covers – Tech details
The new Roam shoe covers actually look simpler than most of the other VeloToze versions, which explains their cheaper price. Essentially a larger volume short shoe cover, the Roams are said to stretch over almost any regular shoe. Of course, that’s still shoe size & volume-dependent, but four sizes (S-XL) for feet from EU 37-49 give plenty of options. And you can likely size up for extra bulky shoes.
Designed for a smoother bike commuter transition both on & off the bike, the natural latex Roams feature a closed, sealed-off bottom to keep water out, and have a slightly textured sole for grip on “most surfaces”. VeloToze specifically says they are for riding flat pedals but also warns to “avoid contact with sharp objects”. We take that to mean you probably shouldn’t commute of flat pedals with big, spiky replaceable traction pins, but otherwise, we would hope that they would stand up to use with both plastic & metal-bodied platform pedals.
VeloToze Roam – Pricing & availability
The VeloToze Roam shoe covers sell for just $10 for a (reusable?!) pair. They come in either bright yellow for increased visibility or simple black for a low-key look off the bike.
While I definitely can’t be sure how truly durable they will be in the real world… at ten bucks a pair, I am honestly curious to give them a try.
