Because, there really weren’t good, solid bike travel bag options for BMX, and WTP wanted to fix that!
WeThePeople Pro 100L Flight Bag air travel bag for BMX bikes
WTP calls their new Pro 100L Bag unique – a project they’ve been dialing in for several years. Faced with trying to create a travel bag that would slide under max allowable airline bag sizing while retaining protection, they figured their best option was to start from scratch.
EVOC actually makes a 20″ BMX sized version of their popular mountain bike travel bag, but it’s 2x the size of this WTP Flight Bag so not so likely to sneak past extra charges. A number of other BMX brands also make less padded versions, too.
WTP Pro 100L BMX Flight Bag – Tech details
So, WeThePeople partnered up with a big sports bag makers and developed their own BMX airline travel bag in their Cologne, DE design offices. The goal beyond making it small enough to evade extra airline fees, was a durable, hassle-free bag to last as long as your bike.
The Pro 100L Flight Bag is 100 liters in volume and “fits within all major airline baggage guidelines”. It is made of tough 900D polyester main body fabric, with a 210D lining. Wide red webbing straps & buckles cinch everything down tight, and webbing sewn across the outside allow you to strap on any extras – plus lots of extra handles to maneuver it around.
Inside three sets of reinforced straps tighten everything down, securing your bike & wheels in place.
At just 100L, it does require a lot of disassembly – removing wheels, fork, bars, and pegs – with the big items generally just getting tossed in together, while the little bits get tucked into pockets. But that means it gets small – while still fitting all 20″ BMX bikes.
The bag rolls on durable & replaceable 50mm skateboard wheels (not the slightly larger rollerblade wheels of many bags), features a telescopic carrying handle, foot to stand vertically, and plenty of organization inside & out.
