You may remember, back in December 2021, we covered Jeff Frane’s emerging bicycle brand, Wilde Bicycle Company…if you don’t remember, you can check it out here.
Well, it looks like they’ve added a new hand-made in the USA waxed canvas bag to their accessories catalog that looks really nice, functional, and, is priced reasonably at $90!
Waxed canvas bags are pretty awesome…they’re kinda my jam. Also, if I can share a bit, they’re a bit of an addiction. So when I saw the press on this new bag from Wilde, affectionately called the Rack Buddy, naturally, it caught my eye. It comes in two wax-canvas-y colors, whiskey, and charcoal.
The fabric is a waxed canvas (did I mention it’s waxed canvas?) 7oz sail cloth, that’s made in the USA. This type of fabric is water-resistant, really quite rugged, and usually, instead of wearing out, it just gains beauty with age and use. Wilde says that the bags are sewn in their South Minneapolis neighborhood by local bag maker, James from Beard Bags.
The bag also has D-Rings to attach a shoulder strap (which doesn’t seem to be included…and I couldn’t find it on their website), as well as an external velcro pocket.
One of the highlights of this bag seems to be the ability to quickly remove and install the bag from bike to bike, the strategically placed four velcro straps help facilitate this.
And if you are like me, and you like to #ridebikesbringstuff that is a key feature. The bag’s size is 6″x 9.5″ at the base and 18.5″ tall while unrolled.
The folks at Wilde can confirm the bag fits on the Surly 8-pack and 24-pack racks, Wald baskets, and the “old Velo Orange flat top rack on Jeff’s townie”. They promise this compatibility list will grow as more people try the bag.
As mentioned, the bag is $90, offered in Whisky or Charcoal, and available now at Wilde.
