A fender that does double… and triple duty as a shovel and tent stake? Something that can mount on the down tube, seat tube, or behind the saddle? And it only weighs 26 grams? It might sound impossible, but that’s just what the Woho Shovelfender does. We take a closer look at this innovative product that makes you do a double-take at only $25.

Woho Bike Shovelfender multipurpose fender, shovel, and tent stake

Woho Bike might not be a household name, but they make a cool array of tools, bags, accessories, and even complete bikes. They’re popular in gravel, and their new Shovelfender is something that makes you say, “Why didn’t I think of that?!”

In a nutshell, it’s a tool that serves many functions on-and-off the bike, is made from 5052 anodized aluminum, and weighs only 26 grams. Bikepackers always love it when one accessory can pull double doody, er, duty – right? In this case, it saves weight, space, helps keep your jersey clean – and helps keep nature a bit more natural in the case of a number-two emergency with no place to go.

The Shovelfender can be used either as a front or rear fender, attaching with Velcro straps. If you want it completely out of the way, you can simply bolt it to a pair of bottle cage bosses on your down tube, seat tube, or fork legs.

Overall dimensions for the Shovelfender are 20.6x8x2 cm / 8″x3″x0.8″. It’s available now and sells in the Woho online store for $25. Check out this and other Woho Bike products at the link below.

Idea of the day?

This is a great idea, but I think I’ll wait for V2.0. Seems a bit small for a fender.

My calf started bleeding just looking at that

So you could crash and in theory, this thing could slice right through you.

That feels a little hyperbolic.

This doesn’t look especially sharp (nor would it need to be) so having a shovel that comes with lots of mounting options while doing double duty as a fender is a slick idea. If it’s moderately functional as a shovel or sand stake it seems like it could be a nice combo for backpacking.

It wouldn’t appear that they thought this one through all the way, from a safety, and gaping wound standpoint.

Riding a bike has risks. This adds very little additional risks.
