Move over Swiss Army Knives, there’s a new all-in-one tool in town. And unlike many feature-packed multi-tools, the new 8-Bit Multi-Tool System from Wolf Tooth Components breaks apart to make it easier to use, regardless of the repair. This tool kit isn’t cheap, but it is one of the most comprehensive multi-tools on the market.
Designed as an addition to their existing 8-Bit Tool, what’s fascinating about the new tool system is that initially, the 8-Bit tool wasn’t actually designed with the magnetic stackability in mind. Yet somehow, the design team at Wolf Tooth figured out a way to create a system with three different tools that all nest together with a series of magnets and machined pockets and nubs.
The resulting form factor is easy to slip into a jersey pocket, bag, or tool roll, and super easy to pull apart and put together.

8-Bit Chainbreaker + Utility Knife Multi-Tool
But some tools were notably absent, like a chain breaker and tire plugger. That’s where one of the two new additions comes in. The clever design features a swing-out chain tool that is turned by a custom Allen wrench.
On the other end of that Allen wrench is a forked end that doubles as a tubeless plugger with the tool body as the handle, and the tubeless plug strips nest inside of the handle.
At the other end of the tool is something we’ve not seen before in a multi-tool: a retractable mini utility knife. There’s even room for extra blade storage inside the handle. What will you use the blade for on a ride? Anything from cutting zip ties, trimming tubeless plugs, opening stubborn food packages, you name it.
Unlike some of the rather useless mini pocket knife blades we’ve seen on multi-tools, this blade is positioned well for safe use, and since it’s replaceable, it will always be sharp as long as the blade is fresh. WTC will sell a pack of 10 replacement blades for $4.95, and 15 replacement tubeless Bacon strips for $9.95. There’s also room in this part of the tool to store a spare valve core which could come in handy.
