Today, Minnesota’s Wolf Tooth Components (WTC) dropped its first proper all-new product launch of the year – the Wolf Tooth Bottom Bracket. Sure, there have been a few interesting little announcements from the bling specialists, like a cool tire pressure app, some small finishing parts, and nice Quick Clik compatibility.
But, WTC calls their new bottom brackets the first of four big announcements for this year.
Wolf Tooth Components colorful threaded bottom brackets

These are officially launching today, even though we got an early sneak peek at them back at the Sea Otter Classic before they were quite ready to go on sale. But now they are, so you can now add a colorful high-quality BB to match your WTC headset.

Wolf Tooth says the new bottom brackets are engineered to be durable, reliable, lightweight, and smooth. All the super popular features that everybody wants in their bottom brackets. WTC also machines them right there in Minnesota, for good old made-in-the-USA quality.

They say the bottom brackets’ weather sealing is the “best-in-class”. There are seals in the spindle, bearing gutters, inner and outer bearing races, shells, and end caps.

There are also spindle bushings that separate the bearing inner race and crank spindle. This eliminates metal-on-metal contact, corrosion, and creaking. The new Bottom Brackets are available in multiple BSA and T47 internal sizes for maximum spindle compatibility.
A Little More About WTC’s Bottom Bracket Seals

Wolf Tooth says there are five seals and O-rings, designed to balance low drag with superior performance in all conditions. The system of a spindle O-ring, seals on the bearing/bushing gutter, inner low-contact & outer bearing races, shell O-rings, and a labyrinth-style end cap seal “ensures smooth spinning in sunshine, rain, snow, and mud alike”.
Wolf Tooth sent over one of their new orange T47 bottom bracket for my upcoming Scarab Cycles Darién build! Stay tuned for the full build of that and its review.

A No Creaking Promise
Wolf Tooth claims there’ll be no creaking from these bottom brackets. The reason is that custom bushings separate the bearing inner race and crank spindle to eliminate any metal-on-metal contact, which is the leading cause of BB creaks. This bushing will also help enhance bearing longevity with a mating interface to the bearing gutter seal for maximum weatherproofing.

They are also available in several colors to help you get matchy-matchy with all of your other Wolf Tooth anodized bits. The new threaded Bottom Brackets sport adjustable-width shells to allow BSA model to fit either 68mm or 73mm wide bottom bracket shells. The T47 internal model will fit 85.5 and 92mm wide shells.

The Bottom Bracket’s custom chrome bearing has been hardened for improved durability, as well as reduced friction. It uses ACOSUR ZNA corrosion-resistant coating, while the ball bearing diameter, width, and counts were custom-selected by the WTC Crew for high quality, based on spindle diameter.
