YT’s new Body Bag brings travel with your bike in reach, creating a new bike travel case that works with what you already have on hand – a box. When you buy a bike from a consumer-direct brand like YT, you end up with a sturdy cardboard box, already designed to protect your bike in transit. So why recycle it, when you can repurpose it as a soft-sided travel case instead?
YT Body Bag zips a bike box into a bike travel case
The new Body Bag does just that, with a durable fabric that keeps you looking like a travel pro. YT developed the new water-resistant nylon bag that simply zips over their standard cardboard bike box, converting it into a soft-sided bike travel case.
The Body Bag adds real world travel friendly features when you zip it over your cardboard box. It has reinforced base & corner panels, spinning replaceable rollerblade wheels on sealed bearings to make it easy to pull with the ergonomic handle at the other end. A couple more carry handles on each side will help maneuver it around in transit. And the bag gets an almost full-length lockable two-way zipper including a TSA lock, plus a built-in luggage tag above the pull handle. Open it up, and a pair of internal straps cinch the box securely into place.
A mail-order mountain bike box maybe isn’t the most compact travel solution, but if you buy a YT and already have the box, it will make an easy to use (and familiar) setup. Plus, it’s hard to argue with the affordability vs. pretty much any other travel case offering similar protection. The Body Bag comes in one size, designed to fit YT’s regular delivery box (35 x 90 x 134cm – that’s the size of all YT boxes apparently). The close fit is really what makes the soft cover work, so you aren’t likely to have much luck pairing it with any other sized cardboard bike box.
The Body Bag is available on its own now for $120 / 120€ at YT’s website, but if you add one to your next order for a new bike YT will give you a 20 (euro)bucks discount. The bag itself adds 4.5kg to your bike and cardboard box, and packs down relatively small for storage inside of an included nylon bag (but you still have to keep that massive cardboard box somewhere.)
