UK-based Modern Times has unveiled the “world’s lightest full size electric-assist bicycle” using their simple, one-button Cytronex Power system and built on a Cannondale Capo singlespeed road bike.  Basically, Cytronex’s system eschews the typical torque-based power assistance or throttle control for a simple on/off switch.  Up to 15mph, the system will assist your pedaling until you a) use the rear brake or b) go over 15mph.  Or, you can turn it off and just ride the bike like normal.
The motor is housed in the front hub, and the battery is a removable water-bottle shaped unit, making the bike much more like a normal bicycle than any other e-bike we’ve seen.  The motor hub has a freewheel built into it, so really, if you take the battery off, it’s basically a bike.  The Cannondale Capo single speed shown above weighs just 13.6kg (29.98lbs) with the battery, and 11.5kg (25.35lbs) without.
