Nalini has introduced a number of updated and new cycling shoes for 2014, some of which are completely customizable to match your team kit. Known for their pro tour clothing, the shoes look equally pro level.
The Octopus WR-CX is an upgraded, water resistant version of their cyclocross shoe. The upper is full microfiber with a wide Storm Shield tongue with a water resistant membrane that wraps across a fair portion of the top of your foot. That should also keep a bit more heat in.
Three Velcro straps keep it lightweight and simple (400g claimed weight). The sole is made of carbon reinforced nylon with aggressive lugs and removable toe spikes. The heel cup is reinforced to limit lift and keep your dogs securely in place whether running or spinning. MSRP $290.
The Octopus gets road and mountain bike editions, too, plus several other models for commuting, spin class, triathlon and road…
The Octopus 2 MTB is essentially the same as the ‘cross version except it has a more breathable, non-water resistant tongue. It uses the same foot-retaining construction, as does the road model below. Weight is 360g. MSRP $195.
The Octopus 2 Road (left) loses the tread blocks and toe spikes, but gets a rubberized cleat mounting area to prevent Look, SPD-R and other large cleats from slipping. MSRP $195.
The Kraken 2 Plus (right) uses the same overall construction but adds an alloy ratchet closure to the top strap. It’s their top of the line road shoe. It upgrades to a seven layer carbon sole with a steel insert to maximize stiffness, and it keeps the rubberized cleat surface. Claimed weight is 330g. Custom sublimation is available on white models. MSRP $309.
The new Triton Triathlon shoe has a seamless microfiber upper with plenty of perforations and a Soles footbed with customizable arch support. An oversized, reversed Velcro strap up top and large heel loop make them easy to get on and secure while hopping out of T1. It has a full carbon sole with both 3-hole Look and 2-hole SPD mounts. 290g, MSRP is $290.
The Murena Spinning (left) is made in Italy with a synthetic leather and mesh upper, easy laceless adjustment and a medium-stiff nylon sole with both Look and SPD mounts. $149.
The Caiman is more street friendly with a less stiff sole for walking around, but commute and touring features like a shaped, reinforced heel cup, antibacterial insole and SPD cleat mounts. $109.
And for those times when you need to kick back with some day-glow yellow on your feet, there’s the Spider Crab. These pics don’t do it justice – it’s a glossy finish, and comes in bright green, too. Reinforced heel cup, EVA sole, anatomic insole and breathable tongue round out the features. 250g, $199.
