SRAM Force – Jedi Powers Come to Road Group

BIKERUMOR.com 2009 SEA OTTER CLASSIC COVERAGE: The 2010 SRAM Force Group drops some serious weight and comes in with a fresh and uniquely identifiable look.  Big graphics across the crank arms and brake levers give it a high end look and better set it apart from Red and Rival groups. The only part not changed with this group release is the cassette.  Billed as a 2010 set, it’ll be available in June or July this year. 

All carbon on the group is now UD (Unidirectional) to increase strength, and all aluminum parts are now forged 6000 series alloy, which gives them lower weight and higher strength. 

The big news is the group drops below 2,000g! With the new BB30 crankset, the total group weight comes in at 1951g and 2097g with a standard bottom bracket.  Complete component and group weights are on the chart (click to enlarge).  All that weight drop comes with more good news:  No price increase!  Pricing for the base (GXP) group will remain the same at $1,399, and $1,439 for the BB30 setup.

	The Crankset gets a visual boost with big logos on the inside of both arms and the option of a BB30 model for extra stiffness. UD Carbon crankarms match up with the new “Zephyr Silver” finish on all Aluminum parts to give it a fast, sexy appearance.     With the BB30, the crankarm, rings and bearings weigh in at just 645g, giving the Force group the biggest single component weight savings.  The normal BB crankset weighs in at 791g.
	The Rear Derailleur has a forged alloy body with carbon outer and alloy inner plates.  It uses SRAM’s 1:1 Exact Actuation and external adjustment screws for easy fine tuning.

	The brakes are another component that get some major changes.  The new Force brakes use RED-styled skeletonized Dual Pivot design featuring spring tension adjust and center adjust, they just don’t get the same extensive machining of the RED brakes. They have more power with easier adjustability.
