2013-Jamis-dakar-xct-650B-pro mountain bike

Jamis has updated their 650B offerings to include 12×142 thru axles (with Rockshox Maxle) on the full suspension models and reworked the frames. The Dakars get larger top- and downtubes and 25% larger chainstays to improve both lateral and torsional stiffness. Fortunately, these improvements come with no net weight gain thanks to a three-piece welded hollow yoke construction.

As if to cement the idea that 650B will replace 26″ bikes in a range of categories, Jamis has axed nine of those models for 2013. Full specs and images for the Dakars, Dragon and Nemesis below…

Beautiful! I ride the 2012 Dakar 650b Pro, couldn’t be happier!

Never seen a Jamis on a ride anywhere, however it must be pretty hard considering Jamis have been pushing the 650b platform for what seems an age. Nwt all these other companies are raving about it…

So am not surprised that Jamis will drop the 26nch wheel frames etc… Be far more economic to only tool for one wheel size….

I will stick to my 29er’s

Good thing for 650B, to improve choice in forks & rim & tires.

I have been riding Jamis bikes for over a year. I have a Dragon 29 Race; its awesome. I also have a Dragon 650B; and its amazing to ride, too. I like both wheel sizes, 29ers and 650B’s both have their strengths and weaknesses… depending on what type of terrain you are on, and how you plan to ride. 29ers are good xc bikes, 650’s are good gnar bikes….but its silly to try to pit one wheel size against the other. Having a choice is awesome!

Heres the real question. did they make any geo changes??

last years bike had chainstays as long as most fully 29ers and the wheelbase was just as long also.

More great 650b bikes by Jamis, the early innovators. They are looking like the smartest guys in the room now.

For those of us who are not over 6 feet tall and/or ride in the rocky/sandy/switchback laden southwest, 29ers are just not agile enough or low enough to the ground for our terrain (in my humble opinion). My 2011 dakar 650b2 is a great compromise between the 29 and 26 wheel size. There aren’t just 2 lengths and widths of skis/snowboards, so why should there just be 2 wheel sizes for mountain bikes? I’m sold on the 650b, and if I decide to get a second bike, I’m much more likely to pick up another 26er than a 29er.

I rode this bike at Outerbike in Moab, and I was so impressed that I’m buying one next season. It climbed like a goat over rocks and steps, and I didn’t notice any difference going downhill from a 26er. I rode a couple of the other 650B’s there and wasn’t that impressed – but this guy just felt dialed right from the get-go. I was intrigued by the wheel size, but I wasn’t seriously considering buying a 650B. I had my mind changed in a hurry.

Test ride if you get a chance, it’s well worth it.
