Kask is the helmet supplier to Team Sky, putting some impressive aero tech aboard some of the best road cyclists around. And it’s their road collection where the focus has been, until now.
The new Kask Rex is a full coverage half lid helmet aimed at aggressive riders, but with a weight that should keep XC racers happy, too. Add in 20 gaping vents and pads designed to facilitate sweat evaporation, and it looks like the Italian company may have nailed it with their newest lid…
“We are proud to introduce the new Rex helmet. To make this we have undertaken extensive research and testing in laboratory conditions and out on the trail. We are trying to do the same kind of job in the MTB discipline as we did with Team Sky on the road helmets. The Rex was developed with Mountain Bike Hall of Famer Nat Ross. Nat and several Pros from around the world in numerous disciplines; contributed to enhancements and developments to make the best MTB helmet possible,” says Diego Zambon, KASK General Manager.
Rear coverage extends far enough downward to cover the lower occipital bone, and small drops in front of the ears provide a bit more temple protection. The whole thing is in-moulded to provide a solid structure, and retention comes from their Octo-Fit system to fit a wide range of shapes and dimensions from just two sizes (52–58cm M / 59–62cm L).
Claimed weight is just 290g. It comes with a removable visor and integrated visor clip at the rear and camera mount on top. The helmet uses their trademark Lux Leather chinstrap, too. Look for it around Christmas 2015 throughout Canada and the U.S.
