IB15: Clement Tires finally gets tubeless ready with new X’plor MSO, more coming

It’s been a long time coming, but the new Clement X’plor MSO 700×36 is more than just a new size, it’s the brand’s first tubeless ready tire.

Compared to the current 32 and 40 width X’plor MSO tires, which remain tube type for now, the tubeless ready version’s sidewall and bead are completely different. The sidewall has more rubber content to make it airtight and improve the supple nature of the tire. The bead is thicker, but not squared off. A protective belt runs bead to bead to reduce the likelihood of punctures.

Available in November, claimed weight is 425g and price is $75. There’ll also be a 60tpi tube type in the new 700×36 size. Look for the MXP and PDX tubeless ready versions to follow in February. Also shown above is the Strada LGG in its new 32 width, which also hits in November.

2016 Clement LCV road bike tire

The Clement LCV is a new road tire named for Lucca, Italy. It’s a standard tube type tire that weighs in at 200g for the 700x25c. Casing is 240tpi with a protective belt under the tread. It’s designed to be a high end racing tire that’ll cost $80. Available in 23, 25 and 28 widths.

Not shown, a new Strada USH will be coming soon. It won’t have quite as aggressive of a side tread as the X’plor USH, but keeps the fast rolling center section like the regular USH. Look for it next spring as a tubeless ready 700×32.

Another new tire is the BOS (Boston) wet weather cyclocross tire with deeper, more aggressive paddle-like center treads than the PDX. Will come in tubeless ready and tubular in February.

We need the X’Plor MSO tubeless in 40 !!! mm width for bombing down fire-roads. It’s great to have a 36 mm version for all those frames where a 40 doesn’t fit in but if you have the tire clerarance for a 40 you won’t buy a 36.
Fortunately the X’Plor MSO tube-type works great set up tubeless as long as you choose the cheaper (and tougher) 60 TPI version. The 120 TPI version doesn’t work without tubes.

I’m with STS. The 40 suits my local gravel road riding perfectly. I’ll wear out my last set this winter, and hope for the 40 in tubeless next season. Very nice tires.

I’ll definitely be buying their 32mm Strada Tubeless tire when ready. I’ll also need to buy a new bike that’ll fit said 32mm tires. I’m hoping they make 28s at some point. I love my Schwalbe Ones but another option that’s a bit less spendy would be nice

@STS – I have three bikes. Including mine, setup tubeless with the 120tpi MSO. It works flawlessly tubeless. Even at low pressure. Just don’t go above 50 psi.

@Cheese – What’s your secret? I’ve never got a regular Clement tire to hold tubeless for more than thirty minutes or so, before it deflates entirely, or blows off the rim.

@ Josh, running the 40’s tubeless since April with some work. Used Orange Sealz instead of Stan’s and that did the trick!

Sealant has zero bearing on whether a tire stays on a rim when setting up tubeless, zero.

Stan’s sealant on Iron Cross rims. But don’t take the pressure up too high because they will blow off the rim. I’m running them at 25-35 PSI.

@Veganpotter: Agree, I want a pair of those 32mm Stradas as well. It’s a d*mned shame so many road bike manufacturers trade short chainstay length for decent rear wheel clearance.

I hope the Strada 32mm has the tread wrap further around the shoulders of the tyre. The photo’s don’t look promising. The sidewalls on the 28mm stick out beyond the tread and in my case the exposure lead to a slashed sidewall when riding on dirt roads. I moved onto Compass tyres as the tread wraps further around to give you that sidewall protection.

It is funny I have had Don tell me the amount of defects through QBP each year was less than 10 per 19,000-20,000 and the tires were tubeless “ready” but the group I ride with we had 7-8 guys on these tires which all tires were a major pain the ass and I easily saw 6+ Clement tires with the cords coming loose on the inside of the tire then the tire would loose shape and be done…. I have only had and seen horrible experiences with this company and even interactions with Don himself were very unprofessional. To little to late in my book….

2 years on 120tpi MSO 40s tubeless on Stans Iron Cross with Stans sealant. 30-40 psi. Sealed easily and keep pressure. About 1000 miles, mostly on gravel. No issues.

That LCV… 240Tpi @200g… the texture on the underside, and that Calibra Plus tread pattern. This isn’t a case of Tufo rebranding, is it? Funny how the Tubular Strada LGG also lacks inner tube, just like Tufo sew-ups.
