Lately, Box has been making the most noise regarding their (hopefully) soon to be released mountain bike drivetrain components. Now that those are finished as we’re told, the company has turned their focus to another new product – wheels. Soon to be offering wheels for both MTB and BMX, Box is on the Cusp of being able to outfit most of your mountain bike…
Starting with the Cusp 27.5 Trail carbon wheels, Box is using a 28h, hooked carbon rim that is 24/33mm wide internally/ externally. The rims will be tubeless ready and will ship with tape and valves installed. The wheels will be built to their own straight pull hubs which will include both free hubs for Standard or XD cassettes and will be 142×12 and 100x15mm, with Boost sizing available. The carbon wheels have a claimed weight of 758 g for the front and 901 g for the rear with pricing set for $1450.
The aluminum wheels are basically the same build, but instead use a tubeless ready, 28 hole, 6061 aluminum rim with a 25 mm internal and 30.5 mm external width. Moving to aluminum increases the weight to 796 g for the front and 951 g for the rear, but decreases price to $850.
Box will now be offering their own wide range cogs which are CNC machined from 6061 aluminum, and available in 40 and 42 tooth sizes.
If you don’t want to add gears but take them away, Box also has a DH cassette spacer meant to turn your 10 speed Shimano XT cassette into a 7 speed cassette. Tested by the UR/Polygon on the World Cup circuit, the spacer sells for $44.
