If you’re one of the few who have to eat a gluten free diet due to health reasons, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that with every story posted to facebook, it gets harder for people to take your dietary needs seriously. The good news though, is that there are more options than ever for things you can actually eat.
Since their introduction, Honey Stinger waffles have been a continuous hit. Starting with a single flavor, Honey Stinger expanded to include even more delicious varieties. This time, it’s not just that there are new flavors, but that they can now offer a waffle (or three) that is gluten free…
The funny thing about the new waffles is that if the label didn’t tell you they were GF, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell. Perhaps a touch softer, all three of the new flavors are incredible and while sure to please those who have to eat GF, those who don’t will still find them delicious. Like the original waffles which will be sold alongside the new GF versions, each is made from USDA organic ingredients. Sold for $1.49 each, the 140 calorie waffles are certified GF and will be available in Maple, Cinnamon, and Salted Carmel.
In addition to GF waffles, Honey Stinger is making moves in their chew and gel departments as well. For those times when you want to get a little protein in with your carbs, Honey Stinger will now offer protein chews which provide 5g of pea/algal protein per pack. Also certified as GF and vegan, protein chews will be offered in Rasperry, June berry, and Cherry Lime for $2.39. Other than the addition of protein, these are the same chews nutritionally as the originals.
The news on the gel front is the addition of the Mango Orange flavor from Honey Stinger. Just in time for warmer weather to come, the bright, tropical flavor joins the line at $1.39 per gel.
Over at the Clif bar table, there was a new introduction to their organic energy food Athlete Series. If you’re not familiar with the line, the concept is real food that has been pureed into a form that is easy to consume and digest when pushing yourself to the limit. A far cry from their pizza pouch (which I still actually like), their new oatmeal flavors should be less controversial.
Cliff recommends that with this one, you actually consume it 2-3 hours before exercising. The Banana Maple and Apple Cinnamon flavors are sold in 4.23oz/120g pouches for $3.29 and provide a hearty oatmeal flavor with ingredients that include actual oatmeal among other natural, USDA organic additions.
