Fi’zi:k is taking their own top level road shoe the R1B and going super exclusive in honor of the 100th year of the Giro d’Italia. The special edition R1B Climb takes a white pair of shoes and adds on a jagged mountain profile pattern – based on the Monte Grappa and Asiago climbs of the race’s Queen stage, just before the finish in Milan the next day. They Fizik dashes in a touch of Giro pink to round it all out. A number of pro riders will be racing staring tomorrow in the special edition shoes, and Fizik is making a very limited number available to consumers as well. If you want a pair, act fast…

Besides those being raced by the pros over the next three weeks, just 40 pairs worldwide are available. You can snatch them up quickly through Fizik.com or from your local dealer.

The Giro Queen Stage design is close to Fizik’s heart. The Monte Grappa and Asiago climbs are very familiar to the company, as you can see the mountains from their headquarters in Marostica, in the Vicenza province at the foot of the mountains.

Sky team co-leaders Sicilian Salvatore Puccioa and Welshman Geraint Thomas, both favorites for the overall will race in the Climb edition, as will BMC’s  Aussie Rohan Dennis, who is taking on his first Giro to build up for more Grand Tour wins.

The R1B Climbs get the same tech as the standard edition laser perforated microtex shoes, including Fizik’s Volume Control that offers a large fit adjustment through the use of the wide and open tongue layout and a pair of Boa IP1 dials. They also get the same ultra-stiff R1B full UD carbon outsole, with its built in vents, and supportive insoles.

The R1B Climb is being offered in sizes: 38-40, 41-45 (also in half sizes), and 46. They claim a weight of just 227g a shoe (for a 42.5) and are retailing for 350€/$430/£330 depending on where you buy. Again, just 40 pairs are being offered, so get on it if you must have them…
