K-Edge adapter for Niterider lights now available

K-Edge has been teasing this one for a while, but now it’s finally here. Joking that it may be their most anticipated product despite being their least expensive, riders now have an option to stealthily mount a NiteRider light underneath their K-Edge computer mount. Additionally, you could use the adapter to mount your light to any GoPro style three fin mount opening up options for helmet mounts and a whole lot more. Available now, the made-in-the-U.S. adapter is fairly inexpensive, which should make it quite popular…

Designed to slot in to replace the standard mount, each 6061-T6 aluminum adapter includes two set screws to lock it in place. Compatible with NiteRider Lumina series lights, the adapter weighs just 11.5g for the weight weenies, and is available only in anodized gunmetal. Priced at $19.99, these have shipped to QBP for distribution among their dealers or you can order it directly from K-Edge, though at this point there’s only one left in stock so you’d better hurry.

I’m using a cheap plastic adapter from eBay to mount my Lezyne light in a similar fashion, but I’m worried that it’s just going to snap one day and my lovely Lezyne light will bounce down the road! It’d be nice to have a solid aluminium option, I searched high-and-low to no avail.

Am I crazy to worry that mounting a light upside down will decrease its beam quality?
I am fairly certain that Light and Motion builds the reflective bit behind the bulb to spread light on the ground, and assume other companies do too.

It’s a case to case basis and dependent on the light model. My old Cat Eye Nano Shot had its optics shaped to fill out the bottom of the beam better, so mounting it upside down was ill-advised. I’ve since had the Volt 1200 and Volt 800, though, still from Cat Eye, and the beam patterns on those seem to have done away with this vertical beam-shaping “bias.” Therefore they are both more amenable to upside-down mounting.

If it doesn’t come ready to clamp on 35mm bars it is a n o go.
For me anyway. I would buy one if it is 35mm for sure

Oops. I see this isn’t the actually clamp but an adapter. Same adapter I bought months ago from Shapeways 3D printed. Never mind.

I’ve got a bunch of people who would buy a solution to get Serfas lights mounted to aero road bars. I haven’t found a clever solution yet, I know of one person I ride with regularly who has an enve SES road bar, and no clever way to run their garmin and a light on the bar.

If he also uses an Enve stem: Enve offer a pretty nice computer mount. With some minor hacking (possibly some drilling) you should be able to attach any mount onto the bottom of it, I’d say.

My NightRider Lumina has the noisiest mount ever, so this may be a welcome relief. Great light otherwise, after four years of consistent commuting it has yet to have battery issues, or any issues for that matter. Except the dang noisy mount.

I had the same ‘NiteRider rattle’ till I put a 1″ section of inner tube around the back of the light and the ‘press down to release lever’. Had it work on two units for a few years now.

It’s too bad that NR didn’t come to this conclusion on their own. Other light companies caught on 2+ years ago that GoPro mounts were the future.

I saw on NiteRider’s page that they partnered on this. Just ordered one to see how it does on the various mounts I have. I can see so many applications beyond mtn biking!

I wished they offered a similar mount for the Pro series of lights from NiteRider. Would love to use the native GoPro insert from my helmet with a NiteRider light instead of the stupid strap-on thing…

How about one for the best-in-class Light and Motion models? Made in the US, the only-lights brand out there. FL-1 certified – waterproof, drop-proof, custom reflectors, real/tested and honest lumen/runtime values..oh and GoPro mountable for a couple of years… They offer a nice Barfly version to run under a centered Garmin or a version just for the light!

K-Edge, great products, but you missed the mark with this one. Whats the point of an adapter for a headlight if you can’t easily removed the light for charging. The only option your products leaves the user with is to take the bike inside or completely remove the adapter each time one want to charge their headlight. For me, I’ll pass. I will continue using my Shapeways 3D printed adapter which allows me to use the Niterider mount and also allows me to detach my light for charging when necessary. Come on Engineers how did you not think more about this product?

Not sure you looked at the photos, but this mount doesn’t block the charging port on the light, so you just remove the screw and the light is off. Small price to pay for a mount that will allow me to securely bomb trails at night. My only complaint about the NR Lumina series…the elastic bar mounts suck on rough trails at high speed. The NR pro series mounts, WOW, best light mount on the market. This just gives us more opportunites to light up our activities.

Ummmm…. lintonsa (above), We are afraid we don’t see it your way. At K-EDGE we make products that will be rock solid throughout a complete Paris Roubaix race, or 100 of these races in a row… Once we put the NiteRider adapter on our light, we plan for it to stay on forever. We then use a thumbscrew (we all have piles of them from our Go Pro cameras) or the hex screw that comes with your K-EDGE combo mount, to remove the light when it needs charging (rarely more than once a week for our work and bar commuting). So, we’re quite pleased with what our engineers came up with. Especially for $19.99. Especially since it’s not made from cheap 3D prototype plastic. Thank you for your feedback though. We read and consider it all.
