About a year and a half ago we got the first real teases from Barcelona mountain bike maker Unno about their entirely made in Spain carbon full-suspension mountain bike. In development for about 5 years now, the first production frames are finally available. And it’s probably been worth the wait. The new 29er Dash trail bike is being released as a numbered run, limited to just 25 bikes in 2017.

Unno Dash 130mm carbon trail 29er mountain bike

The Dash is the first production bike to make it out of Unno’s workshop. From the beginning they took it upon themselves to design and produce everything in-house. And they’ll be the first to admit that it took longer than expected.

But they seem to be perfectionists – down to the padded frame box. And say the bike is finally ready for a commercial debut. The first small batch has been coming together in their shop over the last couple of weeks and has just been boxed up in the 2017 Limited Edition run of 25 framesets.

Tech details

Final production details remain a little thin on the Unno Dash, beyond its raw carbon look and glossy clearcoat finish. But we know most of the key basics from what Unno has shared. And from what we can see about the short-link four-bar suspension design.

The 130mm travel carbon 29er trail bike gets machined aluminum links and a linkage-driven Ohlins STX 22 air shock. The front and rear triangles are both carbon, with alloy inserts for the standard threaded bottom bracket, ISCG mount, post mount rear brake, and the Boost rear thru-axle. The 1x-only frame also features pretty standard press in tapered headset, internal cable routing, and compatibility for a stealth dropper post.

We also do have geometry on the medium/large sized 29er trail bike. Although it isn’t entirely clear what size range will be in offer, as all the complete trail bikes & frames we’ve seen look to be suspiciously the same size.

If you are willing to put 5000€ into the new handmade frameset, hurry up to get in on the 25 available worldwide. Unno is holding off on fully opening their website up until their bikes make it to full production. But in the meantime you can email them to get one of this first run. And even pick your favorite bike number 1 to 25, as long as it is still available.

Next bikes from Unno?

The three years since Unno’s first carbon bike came out of the mold haven’t seen them sitting on their feet. While the Dash trail bike is the first to make it out to real production, there are plenty more bikes waiting in the wings. Just last week, we saw a shot of their pre-production Ever downhill bike. They are finalizing the production molds now, and that one should head into production by the first weeks of 2018.

Limited run of 25 = you break it, there’s no spares for warranty replacement

Curious how that scenario works…

In the case of Cesar Rojo (the owner of Unno) he could probably make you any part of the frame from scratch should you need one down the line.

Keep in mind that limited run numbers typically mean the number that will be sold to the public, not how many that will be made. Typically spares in each size are made for warranty purposes in such cases.

I have even seen small companies follow this logic. Phil Wood made a singlespeed mountain bike years ago yet they still have a few frames in the warehouse when I visited them last “just in case” a frame broke. Even though none did and it’s been easily 10 years since they made them if not farther back.

Limited 2017 run, there probably wont be any change for 2018, so Spares will come from that

Take a look into how Unno are bringing the product to market – they are not a chinese importer or a huge annual model type bike company replacing with a new model each year.

I believe it has taken years of development to get to this point, they own the CNC machines, the moulds, the design, the entire production and distribution.

From what I gather, these things will be encredibly rhobust but if you do need spares they will just make them for you, if anything you have more chance of getting hold of spares than other companies where bikes have annual changes.

I’m not usually a fan of the 100% carbon full carbon with carbon look but this looks beautiful.

Looks like the same bike I bought from China–and costs ten times more. Meh.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s exactky the same. But to someone who’s too cheap to buy something properly made with a warranty I’m sure it does. To those who actually know about bikes, it’s not even close.

Chinese ebay bike are awesome! Your elitist attitude just shows your ignorance. They do look similar with many models offered especially with the carbon/clear coat finish.

beautiful bike. i could never afford that much $$ but if you’ve got it to spare, looks amazing. I’m curious about that seat post – looks almost like a custom shape which would mean no dropper. Wonder if that will be the case for the production frames

The actually first checked for oversea manufacturers. Only then they decided to make it in Barcelona. No matter what they may have said now.
Neat bike though, a little shortish on the travel for me but to each his own.

I think they are quite happy to admit to this – Listen to their podcasts on several websites, Cesars reasoning is all explained and he doesnt slate taiwanese production at all, quite the opposite.
