Why did Campagnolo develop their latest 12-speed road bike groupset? It may have been more than simple one-upmanship. Let Campy’s own development team explain why the perfect number behind movement is undoubtably 12.

Campagnolo Movement 12 – The Meaning of 12

As much as Campagnolo can be a traditional company, steeped in history, and notoriously resistant to change for the sake of change. They do manage to keep developing race winning drivetrain and wheels, and continue to innovate. They may have recently been slow to adopt road disc brakes. But when the Campy Disc Brake Project cam to market, they were offered at more levels than any other producer. And having ridden them hard, we think they might offer the best performance on the market.

So now Campy have become the first big producer to roll out 12-speed road bike groupsets. And, it’s nice to see at least some of the product development team (and of course PR too) in Vicenza don’t take themselves too seriously.

Would probably be better if you were just truthful in that there marketing team has a good sense of humor in that the video isn’t their development team

Why be critical of the reporting on what is clearly a fluff piece? You really don’t have anything better to do with your time?

If you multiply the number of teeth of the largest cog of the Campagnolo Record cassette by twelve, you get its price in dollars.

Honestly, i think 12 speed is excelent and very usefull for one cassette to rule them all. Way more usefull than electronic gears.

Its just not posible to have a tight cluster with decent lowend using only 11 sprockets. Todays 11 speed cassettes with max sprocket size between 30 and 34t gives up way too much in terms a tight gearing.

My main ‘problem’ is the avaible casettes all including 11t and i would like larger jumps in the lowend in order to have a straight block up to 19t. Im sure it will be offered by Campy or by 3rd party Miche at some point.

Good eye! According to Fandom wikia, the wheelbase is (almost) 12 feet, maybe that’s it?

Whatever happened to Campy’s 14 speed drivetrain patent from the 90’s?

That was Shimano. It’s even patented US5954604A
