Orbea just revealed their full 2019 bike line-up, and amongst several spec & custom MyO finish options, are a few new drop bar bikes. Last summer’s aero road bike now gets disc brakes as the Orca Aero D. And their gravel bike that we first glimpsed two years ago as a prototype now gets a Terra H option with a more affordable aluminum frame. Plus, Orbea’s urban bike family gets a new alloy frame for the Carpe & Vector…

Orbea’s Oiz XC bike got a major 2019 overhaul earlier this summer, but now the road bikes get a bit of love too. The standard Orca road race bike got rim & disc brake versions at once when it debuted in 2016. But the aero optimized Orca Aero was rim brake only when it rolled out at last summer’s Tour de France. Now it finally gets the disc brake treatment with pretty much everything else remaining the same.

Orbea Orca Aero Disc – Tech Details

The new carbon Orca Aero Disc (alternately called the Orca Aero OMR D) still features the same stiffness optimized lower spine and lighter more flexible toptube & seatstays, still with the same aero tube shaping. The new disc brake aero road bike carries over the compact 408mm chainstays, the wide set Freeflow fork legs, and full modular internal routing for electronic or mechanical drivetrains. Of course with the new flat mount disc brakes come also 12mm thru-axles.

Pricing & Spec

The disc brake Orca Aero OMR Disc 19 frameset is available on its own for $3300/3000€ in seven frame sizes (47-60cm) and includes frame, fork, headset, stem & aero seatpost. That’s essentially the same pricing as the rim brake version. It also is available in the Orbea MyO program that lets you both customize its paint job, and the complete build spec to your liking.

Complete bikes are also available starting with the Orca Aero M30Team-D 19 at just $3700/3300€ with a complete Shimano 105 R7000 groupset. Then it climbs up to the Orca Aero M10iTeam-D 19 at $9000/8000€ with a Dura-Ace Di2 R9170 groupset.

It isn’t entirely clear from Orbea’s website if some of the more affordable versions use a lesser version of carbon than the top-level OMR hi-mod carbon construction of that Dura-Ace Di2 bike and the frameset. But that would certainly explain the pricing a bit more.

2019 Orbea Terra H aluminum disc brake gravel bike

The Terra H follows up on the OMP carbon Terra, cutting about a grand off the price tag with the move to the alloy frame. Besides the obvious price and ride character difference in the frame materials, the new aluminum bike gets the same core all-road geometry of the original Terra and the same general tech features.

The Terra H shares the same carbon fork as the original, and also features flat mount disc brakes & 12mm thru-axles. The alloy bike can also be built up with either 1x or 2x drivetrains with internal cable routing and still comes stock with 40mm tires.

The Terra H is available in six frame sizes (XXS-XL) and three different paintjobs, including a $900 standalone frameset.

Complete 2x builds include the $1800/1600€ H40-D with a Tiagra 2×10 with hydraulic disc brakes and the $2000/1700€ H30-D with a 105 R7000 2×11 groupset. A more off-road oriented SRAM 1x build for $2200/2000€ gets a Rival 1 groupset, all of which share the same alloy frame Shimano RS170 wheels and Kenda Flintridge 40mm gravel tires.

2019 Orbea Vector & Carpe alloy urban commuter bikes

The new disc brake Vector & Carpe quick commuter bikes look to share the same 6000 alloy frame and carbon forks, offering a wide range of affordable flat & drop bar builds to zip around town.

The bikes all stick with old 135mm rears and QR at both ends, but do get updated to flat mount disc calipers. The bikes get rear rack and full fender braze-ons, with room for 40mm tires, plus internal cable routing.

Pricing starts as low as $650/500€ for the flat bar 1×7 Carpe 40…

And climbs as the $1800/1500€ Vector Drop LTD which gets drop bars, a Tiagra 2×10 with hydraulic brakes, Brooks Cambium C17 saddle, plus a rack & fenders. In between are six more builds with a different take on the same frame, all available in the same five frame size range (XS-XL.)

Alloy Terra – all great, but they could increase the chainstays lengh – rear tyre is so close to the seatstay there’s no place for a full mudguard. Also – why only a single side mount on the fork? New Rocky Mountain Solo has 3, which can handle any type of bags.

Orbea Orca Aero uses the top grade OMR carbon throughout the range, even the 105 kitted M30 Team. It is actually quite clear if you look at the spec, despite what you say 😉
