Nukeproof has been plenty busy while preparing for 2019, but three of their new bike specifically should make a big splash. One of the most intriguing, is the Nukeproof Digger. While the company says it is not specifically a gravel, CX, or adventure bike, it’s hard to categorize as anything else.
As this style of bike edges close to dropbar mountain bike territory, perhaps that is the best way to describe the Digger. Capable of tackling anything from pavement to trails, the triple butted and hydroformed alloy frame frame includes a carbon fork which are both 27.5 Road Plus or 700c compatible. That might be selling the tire clearance a bit short though, as the frame and fork will clear up to a 27.5 x 2.3″ tire, or a 29 x 2.1″ tire. There’s even a removable seat stay bridge to allow you to opt for extra mud clearance, or the ability to run full coverage fenders. Connected to that, the frame offers full fender mounts with additional rack mounts, and a threaded bottom bracket, 12 x 142mm rear and 15 x 100mm front axles, and internal routing for dropper posts.
This is one of the first complete bikes we’ve seen that comes standard with WTB’s new Sendero 650b x 47mm tires which should allow you to get sendy, on or off road. The frame is 1x specific and includes a SRAM Rival or Apex 1×11 group with hydraulic brakes.
The Digger should be available this December for $1,699.99 for the Pro or $1,349.99 for the Comp versions.
Another interesting bike is the new Scout hardtail. Building on the frame’s popularity over the last few years, the Scout will be offered in both 27.5 x 2.6″ and 29 x 2.35″ builds with Comp, Race, and Sport builds.
Designed as a low and slack hardtail, pricing as low as $999 for a complete Sport build should put the bike within reach of a lot of riders wanting a capable trail bike. New this year are improved forks with RockShox Revelation, Sektor, or Recons depending on the build (140mm for 27.5 or 130mm for 29), and more comfortable contact points. The complete bikes also include 1x drivetrains, and Maxxis tires.
Scout 275/290 will begin shipping November 19th.
If you prefer a bit more squish, the Nukeproof Mega 275c and 275 offer EWS winning geometry and a host of new components to polish off the build. Introduced as a late 2017 product, the 2019 versions see slight tweaks in their component spec to bring the bikes up to date. That includes new contact points, new drivetrain options, Michelin Wild Enduro tires, Mavic Deemax Elite wheels, and more carbon frame options at the RS, Factory, and Pro levels. The frames also have a slightly longer top tube on the Large and X-Large sizes, in addition to a slightly taller head tube for a better fit for larger riders.
Mega Comp alloy bikes also get improvements with a new SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, RockShox Yari Charger RC forks, and more 29″ options in the Mega 290 Factory, Pro, and Comp models. At this point, the Mega 29″ is only available in aluminum frames, though Nukeproof says a carbon version isn’t out of the question for the future.
