It’s a new year, and I’m sure plenty of us have resolved to ride more in 2019. Starting off on a good foot (pedal?) in the northern hemisphere  can be tough, so here’s an assortment of new winter riding kit from Vélobici, BBUC, Biehler & Campagnolo. At least you can stay warm & cozy while getting those new riding goals under way…

Vélobici Thermal René long sleeve jersey & bibs

Vélobici Thermal René long sleeve jersey & bibs

Premium made-in-England clothing brand Vélobici just launched an update to their classic René jersey now in thermal long-sleeves together with a matching set of thermal bib shorts. Using a tight-weave thermal fabric for insulation & wind-resistance, the £185 wine red long-sleeve jersey gets thumb loops to keep those sleeves in place, embroidered René & VB logos, reflective detailing, and 3+1 pockets including the waterproofed zip one.

The matching René bib shorts use a new 4-way stretch, double-layered thermal fabric said to trap air between the layers for extra insulation & wind resistance. The £190 thermal bibs also get embroidered logos, plus a “seven-hour bioceramic” chamois pad for all day endurance riding comfort. Get both and save a few quid at £330 for the thermal combo. All of the Vélobici cycling kit is designed & produced in Leicestershire, England.

BBUC Off-Season winter riding jacket, jersey & bibs

Vienna’s designer-focused BrilliBrilliant/Unicorn also has some winter road riding gear up their long sleeves. Forever having to convince their amateur home peloton to just chill out and crank out those base miles/kilometers, BBUC put together a full ‘Off-Season’ line up making their intentions clear, all made in Italy from premium fabrics. The 248€ Off-Season jacket is made of water-repellent, warm & breathable Super Roubaix fabric with a windproof softshell front, taped shoulder seams to keep wind & water out, soft cuffs & neck, and three rear pockets. It comes in both men’s & women’s cuts.

A matching pair of 198€ Super Roubaix Off-Season bib shorts will also keep legs toasty warm & dry, again for either men or women. The BBUC Essential jersey fills out the Off-Season line, but with only BrilliBrilli branding you’ll have to remind everyone to be cool. The 158€ jersey is made from a lightweight Schoeller fabric with sealed cuffs, 3+1 pockets, and comes in burgundy, black, olive, or royal blue for both men or women.

Biehler Syndicate Softshell & many more winter options

Biehler Syndicate Softshell & many more winter options

Designed and produced in Dresden, Germany riding gear from Biehler keeps popping into our feeds with simple designs, reliable fabrics, and solid features. My current personal favorite out of their winter range is the 190€ Syndicate Softshell Jacket. Made from wind & water-proof Storm Shield fabric with Super Roubaix panels for extra breathability, you can only get one if you are a member of Biehler’s Syndicate cycling club (for which exclusivity, among other benefits, will cost you an extra 100€ a year.) Or you can get the same function in the 200€ solid color Signature Winter Jacket.

Biehler has plenty of other new performance winter kit to choose from as well, like reflective-detailed, 3-layer 240€ softshell Neo Classic Deep Winter Jacket, matching 250€ softshell Neo Classic Deep Winter Bib Tights, or their new 220€ water-repellant & warming Neo Classic Thermal Rain Bib Tights that are worn over regular shorts for riding in especially wet winter riding & racing. Plus they have new matching Storm Shield & Stelvio accessories  like caps, gloves & shoe covers to protect against wind, rain & snow from head to toe.

Campagnolo C-Tech Winter jacket, jersey & bib tights

Campagnolo jumped into the performance clothing game with their own logo kit featuring unique design & high-tech fabrics last winter as they teased us about the move to a 12-speed drivetrain. C-Tech was the name they gave for their premium summer road kit, and now some serious winter training gear arrives under the same family. The 250€ C-Tech Winter Jacket promises 3-layer softshell protection from extreme winds, wet & cold riding conditions. Then there’s a 170€ C-Tech Aero Winter Jersey that combines warmth & aerodynamic texture fabrics. There’s also a matching 250€ pair of thermal C-Tech Winter Bib Tights with a mix of techy performance fabrics. Or a 240€ pair of thermal C-Tech Winter Bib Shorts for warmer weather.

Campy didn’t stop there. There are a number of other new winter jackets in the same families they introduced for summer – 235€ Platino Light or 210€ Titanio winter jackets. Or winter weight long sleeve jerseys – 150€ for the Palladio jersey or 120€ for the Titanio. Plus matching bib shorts & tights like the 180€ Magnesio tights or 160€ Magnesio shorts. You can even save a bit when you pair together select combos.

I’d love to see a review of the Campy winter gloves and other winter gear.
