Love BMX but want something a bit… bigger? Well, it doesn’t get much bigger than the new SE Bikes Monster Quad 29+. Continuing their trend of building BMX inspired bikes around bigger and bigger wheels and tires, the latest SE creation uses 29+ wheels and tires to create a true monster.

Starting with the legendary SE Quadangle frame design, the Monster Quad’s frame has been modified with an oversized downtube, integrated head tube, and stiffer BB yoke to handle the stress of the larger wheels and 29 x 2.8″ Vee Speedster tires.

Sold in one size, the frame features a matching 71° head tube and seat tube angle, with 18.3″ chainstays and a 23.5″ top tube.

I like how the weird- especially in the area of different wheel sizes- has gone institutional in recent years. First 29, then 27.5, then 27.5+, 29+, with even 32 and 26 as fringe options. I just don’t see the logic in a 29+ BMX bike- it’s a contradiction. Long stays, big bb drop, long stays, even heavier than a normal BMX (higher bars help compensate, but still…)- it doesn’t add up to a hammer for any nail I can see.

Is a bike a tool you use to accomplish tricks or is a thing with wheels you ride to have fun?

Either, both.
I’d say this is a for fun/style bike and not a bmx bike

I’m 6’6″ tall and race my 29″ SE Racing Big Ripper. I just race for fun at 43 I win by being on the track with my son and keeping my Jersey clean. Conventional 24″ cruisers are uncomfortable for me and seem way too small. I can’t wait to get. My Monster Quad!

Both. If I’m going to spend money on a bike, it better have geometry and parts that are good for a type of riding that I actually do. Almost any bike is fun to ride, but I have more fun on a mountain bike that’s good for mountain biking, a road bike that is good for riding on the road, etc. I just don’t see what this bike is good for beyond cruising around. Unless you, like one of the posters below, is very tall.

Its just for wheelie boyz, not for actual BMX use.

Good luck pulling a wheelie on a bike with 18″+ stays and massive bb drop.

Just look online at Todd Lyons and all the SE riders and how easy they do wheelies on this bike. SE is one of the few bike companies right now doing so really cool and fun stuff. Yes the high end companies doing bikes for thousands and thousands of dollars have some great bikes. Most of the SE Bikes retail for around $600.00 and from what I see lots and lots of younger kids and older riders are having a great time on the SE Bikes

So excited about this bike. SE is doing so many amazing things that no other BMX company even dares to try. They have certainly reinvented them selfs and are some of the hottest and most sought after in cycling. Todd Lyons is killing it and every time a new SE gets released it a great day.

Theres a reason no other serious bmx companies are making bikes like this.
You’ll buy this bike, romp around town for a few months, have a blast, realize your 4″ bunnyhops aren’t that cool, and your tabletop are nowhere close to flat, then the novelty will wear off and you have a 47lb lump of shame in your garage/basement/hallway/porch and you’ll think if that $800 could have been better served toward something else…
But sh*t, you can just roll over curbs with that thing…
I’m getting one!

I’m 51 and enjoy the hell out of it. Beach rides are what I use a bike for at this point in my life. Don’t worry you’ll be old too some day. Get your pedaling in while you still can. It’s a fun and easy distance covering rig.

I am so over SE recycling the same ideas ad infinitum. They’re like a less performance oriented Porsche. They haven’t had a new idea in thirty years.

All i can say is…. these bikes are making kids get back into biking…. that’s a great thing….i was biking with my son for years and none of his friends even had a bike. Now they all have SE Racing bikes and ride more than they play Xbox… that’s a good thing.

I have been researching the SE bikes since my son wanted to get one. SE bikes are really cool. My son bought his SE Monster Quad today and loves it. He said he would rather be on his new bike than be playing his Xbox one or Playstation 4. To me, thats a win in my books.
