Until now, Whyte Bikes has offered e-bikes and gravel bikes, but not gravel e-bikes. That is changing for 2020, with the introduction of their all-new Gosford. Based on their Friston aluminum gravel frame, it adds a 3-mode Fazua Evation system to its 1×11 SRAM drivetrain.
Whyte Bikes Gosford gravel and adventure E-bike
While Whyte Bikes is perhaps better known for their extensive mountain bike line and growing comfort e-bike line, they’re continuing to expand into the ever-popular gravel scene. The bike-du-jour for 2019 seems to be the e-gravel bike, and Whyte is officially in the game with the new Gosford.
Here are the basics: It’s an aluminum frame and fork with clearance for at least 650b x 47mm tires. The only drivetrain spec for now is 1×11 SRAM Apex with a 10-42 cassette, paired with hydraulic SRAM brakes. This all get powered by the popular Fazua Evation drive system, with three modes (125, 250, and 400W) using a handlebar remote.
The frame has stealth dropper capability for the Whyte Drop It II seat post, along with rack and fender mounts.
Rolling stock includes WTB Resolute 650x47mm tires with WTB 32-spoke wheels. These get locked down using 12mm thru axles front and rear.
Another popular spec for gravel bikes for 2019 and 2020 is the riser drop bar. Whyte representatives told us they chose this spec simply due to the fact that many gravel riders prefer a more upright position.
The Whyte Gosford will be available initially in three sizes (52, 54, and 56) for a targeted MSRP of £3,500. There is no official date of availability yet, but initial information suggests late 2019 as a 2020 model. For more info on Whyte, check them out at the link below.
