Following the Sam Hill-mounted EWS-winning Nukeproof Mega 275c, the Mega 290 is the second Nukeproof bike to get the WORX treatment. We saw just 50 Mega 275c WORX bikes go out the door, glimmering in glittery green & gold. Similarly, there are just 50 Nukeproof Mega 290 WORX bikes up for grabs, dressed up in a sleek brushed aluminium with eye-popping limited edition red decals providing beautiful contrast.
Nukeproof Mega 290 WORX limited edition enduro bike
Named after the infamous Megavalanche mass-start downhill race taking place high on the slopes of Alpe D’Huez, the Mega is Nukeproof’s answer to high-stakes, big terrain all mountain riding. This 170mm travel ride is available in both 27.5″ (270) and 29″ (290) wheels, though only the Mega 270 gets a carbon frame, as of yet.
The Mega 290 WORX, priced at £4499, is spec’d accordingly. A new Rockshox Lyrik Ultimate Charger 2 fork delivers 170mm of travel to the stiff boost-spaced hydroformed aluminium frame, which rolls on a DT Swiss EX 1501 Spline One wheelset treading on 2.4″ Michelin Wild Enduro tyres. A 10-50T gear range is offered by the SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain while the all-powerful SRAM Code R brakes can be relied upon for stopping.
The suspension platform of the latest iteration of the Nukeproof Mega 290 is serviced by a new metric-sized custom-tuned Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate RCT coil shock, providing 150mm of rear wheel travel. The shock hardware now has a wider spaced 25mm x 8 mm front mount with a rocker link mounted bearing system – aimed at improving shock sensitivity and reducing the amount of wear through heavy usage.
