The Nukeproof Scout 140mm travel hardcore hardtail is back for 2020 with new build specifications for both 290 and 275 versions. The low & slack geometry remains unchanged but in celebration of the 2020 Scout builds, Nukeproof have knocked it out of the park with a classic UK winter slop shreddit, Scoutin’ About Part Deux, featuring the 2018 EWS U21 Champion, Elliot Heap, a “nutter hailing from Warrington” (Nukeproof words, not mine), Lil Robbo, and former factory World Downhill racer, Nigel Page.
2020 Nukeproof Scout
Though geometrically unchanged from 2019, i’ll reiterate the angles and measurements that make this not just any old hardtail, but a hardcore hardtail. On the 650b Scout, a 42mm offset 140mm fork sits at a slack head angle of 65°, with the seat tube rising out of the -50mm drop bottom bracket at a slack 73°. The 435mm chain stay contributes to a wheelbase of 1164 mm in medium. The 275 has a complete size range available from Small to XL, while the big wheeled 290 starts at medium.
Angles and reach figures of the 290 remain identical to those of the 275, at 425 in medium, increasing in 25mm increments to XL. With only a marginally longer chainstay of 430 mm, and a 51mm offset 130mm travel fork, the 290 isn’t heaps longer, with a wheelbase of 1174.5mm in medium.
Both the 290 and 275 Nukeproof Scout have BOOST 148x12mm rear axle spacing, and are available in three build options; Race, Comp and Expert, with the latter slightly overforked at 140mm on the 290. The top-end build in the 2020 Nukeproof Scout range is the Expert, featuring a Fox 36 Rhythm fork with Grip Sweep Adjust, a DT Swiss M 1900 SPLINE wheelset with Shimano Microspline freehub, a Shimano M7100 SLX 12 Speed drivetrain and 4-piston Shimano M7120 SLX brakes.
The Race build features a RockShox Recon RL fork, WTB Serra wheels with Shimano freehub, Shimano Deore 10 speed drivetrain, and Shimano MT400 brakes.
For a little extra cash, you can bag yourself the Nukeproof Scout Comp build featuring a RockShox Sektor RL fork, Sun Ringle Duroc wheels with Shimano freehub, SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain and SRAM Level T brakes.
All models are spec’d with 180mm rotors, Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR EXO+ tyres, Sam Hill signature grips and Nukeproof Warhead headset.
