Designed for those looking to take a little of the edge off on mixed-surface, commuter & e-bikes, the Short-Travel Thudbuster ST now bumps up 50% to 50mm of vertical travel, better smoothing out broken asphalt, cobblestones, potholes & any other rough surfaces encountered. The updated linkage design also now builds in a tool-free system that lets you easily interchange the elastomers to dial in the perfect feel for a wider rider weight range – now supporting up to 330lb/150kg riders.

The new longer short-travel Thudbuster post is available now from Cane Creek for $170, effectively one dollar less than the older, but generally lighter 33mm travel offset ST post. The same updates are expected to come to the LT long-travel version of the Thudbuster later this year.

Cane Creek also says a number of 2020 models of Reise & Müller commuter e-bikes will be the first to spec the updated suspension post.

  1. Good to see this long needed upgrade by Cane Creek. I switched to a Kinekt XL (aka Bodyfloat) on my Riese + Muller e-bike last year due to more weight capacity and better compliance than my Cane Creek ST. The Kinekt XLL feels fantastic on the road, but has become creaky sounding after a year of use. My old Cane Creek ST seat posts were always silent – with absolutely no maintenance. I may switch back if the new ST model has similar compliance as the Kinekt.

  2. These things have always been great. Still makes no sense why they aren’t used more often. Far simpler than dual-suspension and lighter. Perfect for a carbon hardtail.
Looks like the photoshoot was outside the new Asheville art museum. Hopefully they picked up some goodies at French Broad Chocolate Lounge while there!

    • I emailed Cane Creek about the possibility of a dropper version months ago but they never answered. I am unimpressed by the company because of that. It is a pity because I was ready to buy one from them.

  3. Shame about the single bolt saddle clamp. This makes it a no-go for any heavier riders because these clamps never hold the saddle without slipping (tilt). There’s a reason that every good seatpost manufacturer has gone to 2 bolt tilt mechanisms.

  4. I’ve had both the LT and ST for many years. Shame to see the single bolt clamp as well. I have 13 bikes currently, and if possible, I always use a twin bolt seat post. It is just better in every way, except maybe aesthetically.
