Mountain bike, road bike, gravel bike, at this point you can find hydraulic disc brakes just about everywhere. With all of those different bikes, brakes, and brake fluid types comes a need to be prepared to bleed a wide variety of set ups. Rather than having to keep a bunch of different bleed kits in your shop for every brand of brakes, Park Tool is adding two new bleed kit options that will cover a number of different brands. More interestingly, the kits include a tool to keep that rear syringe from dangling off the back of the bike and potentially spilling all over the floor!
The Park bleed kits will be offered in two versions – the BKD-1 and BKM-1. Those stand for Bleed Kit DOT or Bleed Kit Mineral. To help differentiate the two, the DOT syringes will have black handles while the Mineral Oil syringes will be blue.
Included in both the BKD-1 and BKM-1 is a cool little attachable syringe mount. This can be mounted to the seat stays or chainstays, and has an adjustable strap to fit a wide range of frame shapes and sizes. The mount should be very useful in providing a ‘third hand’ to keep the syringe upright, and to keep it from dangling from the bleed fitting if you have to do something at the front of the bike – no more contortionist maneuvers needed to keep the syringe from falling off while working at the lever! Honestly, this seems like a tool that would be worth offering for sale on its own for all the existing bleed kits out there.
The BKM-1 will also include a bleed funnel for use with Shimano brake systems.
Mineral Oil Brakes
The BKM-1 includes machined aluminum fittings to service Shimano, Magura, Clarks, Promax, Tektro, and TRP brakes as well as other mineral oil based systems. Brake fluid is not included, and the kit comes packed in a carrying case for $139.99.
DOT Fluid Brakes
The BKD-1 DOT fluid kit on the other hand will service SRAM, Hayes, Formula, Hope, and other DOT fluid based brake systems. Again, brake fluid is not included, and with the absence of the bleed funnel, the price is a bit lower at $117.95.
