Tune is taking its Nano wheel platform to the road, and this time the headline is not just weight. After launching Nano Gravel, the German wheelmasters are expanding the family with six new road wheelsets: Nano Road 35, 45, and 60, plus carbon-spoke versions called Nano CS Road 35, 45, and 60.
The Nano line sits below Tune’s Yokto series, which remains the brand’s ultra-light, dream-build option. Nano is meant to hit a broader sweet spot. The Nano is lightweight, but offers more durability and a more usable performance range for racing. But also for long days where the road surface is not always perfect – the everyday awesome wheelset.
Nano CS: carbon spokes without the usual headache
The most interesting piece is the Nano CS hub system. Carbon spokes are not new, but they bring a different set of demands than steel spokes. Steel spokes can handle some bending and angle correction during the build. Carbon spokes are much less forgiving. They want a cleaner, straighter path from hub to rim.
That usually creates a compatibility problem. Different rim depths, offsets, and effective rim diameters can all require different hub geometry to keep the spoke line clean. Tune’s answer is a patented Nano CS hub shell with ball-milled spoke-hole geometry.
Instead of locking the spoke into one fixed angle. The Nano CS hub shell interface lets the spoke head sit naturally in line with the rim hole. The goal is a cleaner load path and less unwanted stress at the hub, spoke, and rim connection. It is a small detail visually, but a big one mechanically.
The Nano CS hubs come in 20- and 24-hole options. Though the Nano CS Road wheels use 20 spokes front and rear. Hubset weight is listed at 278g for the 20/20 XDR version, or 288g for the 24/24 XDR version. Standard bearings are Enduro ABEC-5, with Enduro XD-15 hybrid ceramic bearings available as an upgrade. Freehub options cover SRAM XDR, Shimano HG, Shimano Microspline, and Campagnolo N3W.
Light, but not fragile
The bigger practical story might be the weight limit. The Nano CS system works for a maximum rider weight of 120kg and a maximum system weight of 130kg. System weight means everything: rider, bike, equipment, and baggage.
That is notable because carbon-spoke wheels are often treated like pure race-day hardware. Tune is clearly trying to push Nano CS into a wider-use category. Tune says the system was torque tested up to 700 Nm before failure, and that its POEtry 69 freehub system has already seen WorldTour-level racing use, including at the Tour de France.
So yes, the wheels are light. But Tune is not presenting them as delicate.
Nano Road: steel spokes, same road platform
For riders who want the new Nano Road rims without carbon spokes, the standard Nano Road wheels use Tune’s latest Nano hubs with traditional spoke builds. These are available in the same 35mm, 45mm, and 60mm rim depths.
All Nano Road and Nano CS Road wheels use hooked carbon rims with a 24mm internal width and 32mm external width. Tire compatibility is listed from 28mm to 45mm, which puts these firmly in the modern road and fast all-road lane. They are UCI-approved as well, so race bikes are very much part of the intended use.
The depth split is pretty straightforward. The 35mm version is the light, climbing-friendly option. The 45mm is the everyday fast wheel. The 60mm is the aero pick for faster rides, flatter races, and riders who do not mind a little extra depth in crosswinds.
Weights are competitive across the board. The standard Nano Road 35 comes in at 1280g, the 45 at 1340g, and the 60 at 1440g. The carbon-spoke Nano CS Road wheels cut that down to 1180g, 1250g, and 1350g respectively, all with a +/- 3 percent tolerance.
That means the deepest carbon-spoke Nano CS Road 60 is still listed at 1350g. Not bad for a 60mm-deep, hooked, UCI-approved road wheel with a 130kg system weight rating.
The Nano Road launch gives Tune a more versatile road wheel family while keeping the brand’s usual focus on low weight and precise German manufacturing. The standard Nano Road wheels should appeal to riders who want Tune hubs and modern road rims without going all-in on carbon spokes. The Nano CS versions are where the real tech story lives.
No pricing just yet, but with tune, the usual rule applies: bring your weight-weenie curiosity and probably leave your bargain-hunting expectations at home.
