After releasing a super-rocket aerobike, ENVE has a new deep-section race wheel, and it’s already got a few wins.

The new wheelset was developed in response to the UCI rim-depth rules that took effect at the beginning of 2026. Instead of modifying the existing SES 6.7, ENVE started over with new front and rear rim shapes. They also added a new INNERDRIVE PRO hub and ceramic bearings. ENVE calls it its fastest UCI-legal wheelset to date.

The final setup pairs a 59mm front rim with a 65mm rear, just in the UCI-legal zone. The new SES 6.7 PRO (shouldn’t we be calling these the 6.5s?) weighs a claimed 1,495g with valves and tape and is built around 28mm tires.

It has also already been racing under UAE Team Emirates, with more than 10 WorldTour wins before the official launch.

ENVE SES PRO 6.7 Wheelset Riding

New 59mm Front and 65mm Rear Rims

The SES 6.7 PRO uses different front and rear profiles, something ENVE has done throughout its SES line.

Up front is a 59mm-deep rim, while the rear grows to 65mm. Both use a 22.5mm internal width and were aerodynamically developed around a 28mm tire. ENVE says it also tested other tire sizes and at speeds representative of both professional and amateur riders. In the end, they decided the conditions and course profiles the SES PRO 6.7 would be used in were best suited to 28mm tires.

The idea behind the split depths is familiar. The front wheel has a bigger influence on steering and crosswind stability, while the rear can go deeper without affecting handling as much.

ENVE has worked with aerodynamicist Simon Smart (who also worked closely on the new ENVE Melee V2) since 2009, developing SES shapes through CFD, wind-tunnel work, in-frame testing, and outdoor riding. ENVE believes you should tune the front and rear rims separately rather than treating them as matching shapes with different depths. More companies are trending this way as well.

Built Around 28mm Tires

The 22.5mm internal width is also notable in a market where rims have continued getting wider. With 23-25mm seeming to be the default, ENVE is playing in the safer space.

Rather than chasing maximum tire volume, the focus here is matching the tire and rim shape for aerodynamics.

The SES 6.7 PRO is hookless, hooked, tubeless-only, and, like ENVE’s other premium wheelsets, built in Ogden, Utah.

INNERDRIVE PRO Saves 60 Grams

A new hub also hides between those deeper rims. The INNERDRIVE PRO is a lighter version of ENVE’s existing INNERDRIVE system and uses a redesigned 40-tooth ratchet and spring.

ENVE says the new hub saves 60 grams compared with the Premium INNERDRIVE hub.

Part of that comes from a lighter hub shell, but ENVE also reduced the ratchet diameter and removed material from the drive mechanism. A new spring uses less force while maintaining reliable engagement, reducing ratchet drag.

The hub uses ENVE PRO Ceramic Bearings with Grade 5 ceramic balls, hardened stainless-steel races, and polyamide cages. They also use low-contact seals on the outboard side to protect against dirt and water, with non-contact seals internally to reduce drag. The ceramic bearings come with a five-year factory warranty.

1,495g for a 59/65mm Wheelset

The complete wheelset weighs a claimed 1,495g, including valves and tape.

That’s a fairly respectable number given the rim depths, especially since the wheel is clearly aimed more at outright speed than gram counting. Still, its the heaviest in the ENVE SES lineup.

Already Winning at the WorldTour

Did I see this somewhere before? Yeah…we all did. The 6.7 PRO may be new to customers, but it isn’t new to racing.

ENVE says the wheelset has already collected more than 10 WorldTour victories, including Milan-San Remo, Strade Bianche, the UAE Tour, Tour of Oman, and Clásica Jaén.

UAE Team Emirates has been involved throughout the development process, using track testing to compare the new wheel against the previous version.

Hooks Are Back

One easy-to-miss detail (we originally missed it!) is the return of a hooked bead on the new SES 6.7 PRO.

The 22.5mm internal rim still requires tubeless-compatible tires, so ENVE isn’t abandoning road tubeless. But unlike the hookless SES 4.5, the 6.7 PRO uses a traditional bead hook.

Why? It raises the pressure ceiling. ENVE lists a maximum pressure of 100 psi / 7 bar for the hooked SES 6.7 PRO, compared with 72.5 psi / 5 bar for the hookless SES 4.5.

Most riders won’t need anything close to 100 psi with a 28mm tire, especially the super lightweight WorldTour riders. However, the hooked design gives the wheel more headroom and removes some of the tire-compatibility questions that continue to follow hookless road rims.

ENVE has some numbers to back up the claim. In its 48kph testing on the ENVE Melee, the SES 6.7 PRO posted the lowest drag of the conventional spoked wheelsets in the comparison. The test included the previous-generation SES 6.7, Roval Rapide CLX II, Vision Metron 60 SL, Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51, Zipp 454, Scope Artech 4, and several others.

Interestingly, the fastest conventional wheel in ENVE’s test wasn’t the deepest. The new 59/65mm SES 6.7 PRO tested faster than the outgoing 60/66mm SES 6.7. We’re betting the gains are coming from the new rim shape rather than simply adding depth.

The only setup that tested faster was ENVE’s SES 100 PRO front wheel paired with a rear disc, which is a very different setup from a normal UCI road-racing wheelset.

Tire size also played a noticeable role.

At 55kph, ENVE measured 75.3 watts of average drag with a 27.1mm tire and 75.7 watts with a 29.4mm tire. Moving up to a measured 32.3mm tire, drag increased to 78.1 watts. At 35.1mm, it jumped to 87.6 watts.

That helps explain why ENVE built the new 6.7 PRO around a 28mm tire rather than going wider.

So, is it really the fastest UCI-legal road wheelset? In ENVE’s own testing, it’s the fastest comparable spoked setup in the group they tested. Independent numbers would still be useful, but there’s at least some real data behind the claim.
