At the top level of XC racing, every gram counts. You or I might not be able to wring out every last bit of performance from a high end race bike, but racers like Manuel Fumic are borderline superheroes.

Recently, Manuel posted a few shots of his new Cannondale Scalpel to instagram. More than just a beautiful new bike, the shots also included what appears to be an interesting looking one-piece bar/stem combo. The flat bar almost looks to have a negative rise to it, and there is a lot of material where the bar meets the stem. Our fist thought was that this might be some kind of new HollowGram SAVE combo from Cannondale, but judging by his continued ENVE sponsorship and use of their bar and stem in the past, our money is on a new prototype from ENVE.

Rough landing. Not that kind of picture I wanted to share with you but sometimes things don’t go as planned and this happened to me on Monday. On a race simulation session on one of my training laps i clipped a stump of a tree with my pedal. I got sent over the bars into a rough landing on my back. Lucky enough I still was able to call my brother who picked me up and brought me to hospital. The diagnose is a broken collarbone, broken shoulder blade, 6 broken ribs and a pinched lung. I was released yesterday from ICU and I will undergo surgery tomorrow and work towards a full recovery. A big shout out to my support crew, I will challenge you the next month and you will challenge me. Let’s see how far we get together. 🤟 I will keep you updated on my process. Thanks for everybodies support and enjoy your rides. Cheers ✌️ Mani @cannondalemountain

Unfortunately, it looks like we also need to send out some major healing vibes to Manuel as he recovers from a big training crash last month. Apparently a clipped pedal sent him OTB and resulted in a a broken collarbone, shoulder blade, six ribs, and injured lung. Ouch. We hope you heal quickly and get back out there as strong as ever, Manuel!

Thanks to Tobias for the tip!

It’s a Cannondale bar. Not ENVE.

Because it’s not the first one piece bar cannondale has done out of carbon. Not only one currently spec’d on bikes.
