The preppers among us like to be ready for anything, but the cyclist in all of us wants to minimize weight. While we do love a good Silky Saw and a good multitool, the Leatherman TTi strikes a great middle ground for mountain bikers.
Using a lightweight titanium frame, it packs 19 tools into a 252g package that’s just 4″ long. Except there’s more to it than that…
Why carry a Leatherman for mountain biking?
Well, two reasons, depending on the ride. If you’re backcountry exploring, it’s a peace-of-mind thing. You never know what might happen.
But for most of us, we’ve probably come across a small fallen tree or other trail detritus caused by a storm or something. Sometimes we can just pull them off the trail, other times they need to be sawed into smaller chunks. It’s there that a good saw blade can save the day. If this one’s too small, chances are you’d want a chainsaw anyway.
Can it do bike repairs?
Here’s where this one makes sense for cyclists – the bit holder.
The Charge+ TTI comes with 15 non-metric bits, but you’ll want to add your own set of metric bits and a Torx 20 & 25 to the mix. You’re giving up a chain breaker, but there are tire-lever multitools that pick up the slack in that department.
