If you had planned to add a new bike to your collection for 2020, you probably already know that supply is extremely limited. Nearly every part of the supply chain has been affected, which has meant long delays and empty bike shops. So while Ventum teased the GS1 earlier this year with the promise of an early summer launch, it’s not surprising to see that it’s been pushed back quite a bit.

Details on the new bike are still quite limited, but Ventum has opened the GS1 up to pre-order.

What do we know about the bike so far? Built with a drop-chainstay design for tire clearance and chainring clearance, the GS1 also features a fork with an adjustable offset. With a choice between 45mm and 50mm offset, Ventum claims the bike offers the same ride feel with either 650b or 700c wheels, and riders can prioritize a more stable or faster steering feel. Maximum tire clearance isn’t provided, with Ventum stating that “rim and tire variables can affect optimal clearance; we’re happy to help you choose the right combo.”

The full carbon frame appears to have a removable front derailleur mount, and complete builds are offered in either 1x or 2x setups. Cable routing is completely internal with everything sneaking into the frame through the headset for a very clean look. Water bottle mounts are provided on the seat tube, and both sides on the downtube, plus there are top tube mounts for a bag.

All three builds will use the same frame, which is offered in three colors and five sizes. Complete builds start at $2,899 with a SRAM Force1 mechanical group, then there is a Shimano GRX Di2 build that starts at $5,499, and a SRAM Red AXS Mullet build starting at $6,599.

Orders require a $1,000 fully refundable deposit, and you’ll choose the final options around October 31st. Ventum expects the first orders to ship by early December, 2020.

what is with these guys? They want you to plunk down $1000 for a bike, but they won’t tell you what the components, other than the drivetrain, are on it? And not listing a tire clearance on a gravel bike is just stupid. I mean, better than lying about it (COUGH COUGH NORCO), but still.

They could easily give us the clearance between the fork legs and chain stays.

Check out the frame stack. It’s seams pretty aggressive. Cervelo’s Aspero is 608mm for a 58cm vs 589mm for this bike. The 3T Exploro is 604mm for a 58cm. Thats 15-20mm lower that both of these and they are considered gravel race bikes.

I have just spent a short amount of time on questions and then a scope/spec session with the Ventum guys. Could not have been easier. Doing it from the GC in Australia was no barrier. Bike spec’d and ordered. Super excited:)
