Complimenting their larger 700c and 650b models, the new Salsa Journeyman 24 gravel bike adds a smaller but still full featured frame to the lineup. Built on 24″ wheels, it has all the mounts for all the things, comes spec’d with top notch parts, disc brakes, and a 1x wide range drivetrain. All that for just $899, here’s the full rundown…
Salsa Journeyman 24 youth gravel bike specs
The Journeyman 24 starts with a lightweight aluminum frame and fork designed with stability and easy handling in mind. That means slightly longer chainstays, low standover, and a slight rearward weight bias. It’s designed to fit riders from 4’7″ to 5’2″ (139-158cm).
Salsa added a low mounted water bottle boss so it would still fit a full 24oz bottle inside the front triangle. There’s an additional bottle cage mount underneath, though it may be better suited to slimmer accessories to maintain proper ground clearance.
The fork gets the same 3-bolt accessory mounts as their grown-up bikes, and rear rack mounts on the stays and dropouts give it full bikepacking capability.
Internal cable routing for the rear brake and shifter keep it clean and modern, and tire clearance maxes out at 2.0″ tires. Brakes are Promax mechanical disc brakes, and it has a Samox 152mm crankset with 36-tooth chainring with integrated chainguard.
It’s spec’d with a Microshift Advent 9-speed wide range group, including 11-42 cassette and derailleur, with paddle shifters on the brake levers. The wheels are WTB/Novatec with Teravail Sparwood 24×1.85″ tires. It even gets a 38cm wide Salsa Cowbell handlebar!
Claimed weight for the complete bike is 23lbs (10.43kg). Retail is $899, one size only, comes in Teal and Red. Available November 2020 in the United States and Canada through authorized Salsa retailers.
