Short-nosed, wide ergo saddles are all the rage these days, both on & off-road. And there’s no hotter buzzword than gravel, right now (except maybe eMTB, which Fizik covered last week.) So Fizik combines the best of both in a couple of new Fizik Terra Argo gravel saddles.
Two other short, wide, extra supportive Argo saddles already exist in Fizik’s road line-up – Vento & Temp – but the new Terra tries to find how best to take the Argo platform off-road, too.
Tech details: What makes the Terra Argo gravel-specific?
The overall front to back profile gets a gravel tweak, starting with a wave for extra support on the tail to push against, with wingflex on the sides for unfettered pedaling from the wide seat. But a chamfered rear edge makes it easier (and more comfortable) to get off the back for technical, even sketchy descents. Then, a dropped nose comes back to let you roll forward comfortably when trying to tuck down and get out of the wind at the end of a grueling day of bikepacking or adventure racing.
In the middle between the dual-density Type-2 foam there is still a deep ergonomic pressure-relief cutout, but just like the recent Terra Aidon eMTB saddles, the Terra Argo builds in the vented center mudguard to stop tire spray on your undercarriage.
The Fizik Terra Argo gravel saddle is only available in the mid-range X3 & X5 level which benefits from the more forgiving, vibration-eating carbon fiber reinforced nylon shell, and is offered in either lightweight hollow ti Kium or extra strong tubular chromoly S-Alloy rails.
Both of those rail options also get the Fizik “Mobius” closed rear loop layout that Fizik claims delivers improved structural stability.
But maybe more importantly, it also results in a longer clamping area to give more fit adjustability no matter what offset your gravel dropper post offers, and it sits the saddle a bit higher from the seatpost head for easier access to attach accessories like clip-on fenders or bikepacking bags.
Fizik Terra Argo gravel saddles – Pricing & availability
The new 270mm long Fizik Terra Argo gravel saddle is available at two price levels X3 & X5 and in two widths 150 & 160mm.
The Fizik Terra Argo X3 sells for 129€, with claimed weights of 238g or 245g depending on width.
And the Fizik Terra Argo X5 sells for 89€, with weights of 250/257g width dependent.
