Scope Cycling adds new wider and aero, gravel-ready All-Road carbon wheels to their line-up, expanding beyond their original Road & Off-road offerings. The new Scope All-Road wheels get the same aerodynamic 30, 40 & 57mm depths as the Road line-up, but jumps to a 23mm internal, hooked tubeless rim to better fit high-volume all-road tires and even wider gravel bike tires.
Scope All-Road wider aero carbon gravel wheels
The next generation of carbon Scope wheels is probably their most versatile yet, mixing all of the aero benefits of their capable road wheels that we’ve already tested at almost the same light weights, plus new wider rims designed to fit everything from 28mm road tires up to 57mm wide gravel tires.
Rim depths are the same for All-Road as Road, with the new 30mm deep R3.A designed as a lightweight climber, the 45mm deep R4.A as the versatile all-rounder, and the 57mm deep R5.A as the most aero gravel race wheelset for flatter riding.
The new wider wheels were developed in-house by Scope in The Netherlands, partnering with Schwalbe for wide tire fit & reduced rolling resistance, and the Aerospace department of Delft University of Technology to refine the aerodynamics.
Instead of relying on CFD analysis, Scope developed the rim profiles with a unique algorithm to calculates an optimal profile finding a sweet spot between drag & comfort.
Scope claims their Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamic (AEA) tech allowed them to reduce the extra aero drag of their move from a 25mm to a 30mm road tire to just 1.5W, which then got offset by a 5W rolling-resistance reduction, ultimately making the wider tire setup faster and more comfortable.
Tech Details & Build Options
Each of the new tubeless-ready carbon rims features a 23mm hooked internal, with a max 30mm external width – with a high 125psi/8.6bar max tire pressure rating.
Just like before, Scope uses a carbon layup locally reinforced just around the spoke holes to maximize strength while saving weight.
Redeveloped to be standardized across all of their wheelsets now, Scope hand builds these wheels around a new lighter set of straight-pull alloy hubs with centerlock rotor interface, and officially with no rider weight limit thanks to new larger diameter axles.
The new hubs feature SKF bearings as standard, but a 500€ CeramicSpeed upgrade is also available.
They now use 36T Diamond Ratchet engagement as standard, with a faster 48T set of ratchets available separately for another 70€.
In both a nod to versatility and possibly a hint of what’s to come in the very near future, all of the new Scope All-Road are available with any of five hardened alloy freehub bodies making them compatible with all current (and some future?) groupsets. Pick from Shimano HG, Shimano Micro Spline, SRAM XD-R, legacy Campagnolo, or Campagnolo N3W.
Scope All-Road carbon gravel wheel pricing & availability
All three of the new Scope carbon All-Road wheelsets share the same standard 1398€ price tag with white or black decals, as do all of their carbon wheels. Customize color decals add about another 100€. The All-Road wheelsets are available now in three versions – the 30mm shallow R3.A at 1535g, mid-depth 45mm R4.A at 1610g, and deep 57mm aero R5.A at 1685g (claimed wheelset weights).
All three feature 3-year warranties, a lifetime crash-replacement policy, and free global shipping.
