OneUp Components Threadless Carrier stows 20 function EDC V2 Multitool in your steerer

OneUp Components have raised the bar for every day carry solutions to an all-time high. Their new Threadless Carrier is designed to stow the 20 function OneUp EDC V2 multitool inside your steerer tube. As the name suggests, it does this without the need for tapping the fork steerer. Let’s zoom in on this multi-functional, modular, customizable, top-cap accessible trail side fix assembly.

This new collection of every day carry components from OneUp builds on the EDC Lite tool released at the back end of last year. That was a 9 function multitool that lived inside a carrier that was, in its function, a replacement top cap; cinching down the entire assembly to remove play from your headset. Ingenious.

The new Threadless Carrier is an evolution of that design, bigger and better because it can accommodate the OneUp EDC V2; a 20 function multitool that boasts the following parts list…

All that functionality can be neatly tucked away into your steerer tube, without the need for a steerer tap. OneUp are keen to communicate that threading your steerer tube and using the EDC Top Cap is still the lightest and lowest cost way to run the full EDC Tool.

Threading your steerer tube is easy to do with the EDC Tap, does not void your fork warranty and is the only way to run the V2 Tool on some Fox 38 forks (Factory and Performance Elite with oval steerers). But, if you don’t want to cut threads into your steerer tube and still want tools on every ride, the Threadless Carrier is for you.

What’s new for the EDC V2?

OneUp have revised the EDC giving it an improved steel-body chain breaker that is said to be more durable and a little easier to use. It also gets stronger steel spoke keys and (my favorite bit) a small secondary storage capsule for tubeless plugs and a jabber.

The brand have also made it easier to remove with a lower friction design. The EDC V2 Tool is compatible with all V1 storage options, so those already invested in the system can upgrade their multitool.

The EDC V2 Tool now includes two sealed storage capsules, one small and one large.
The new small capsule can be used to cover your jabber and pre-loaded tire plugs,
keeping them sticky for longer. It also allows you to use the EDC Tool and tubeless plug
kit inside the small 70cc OneUp pump.

How does the Threadless Carrier work?

Unlike the EDC Lite, the new Threadless Carrier actually requires complete removal of the star nut inside your steerer tube. OneUp supply an M6 Bolt and Washer for the job but you will also need either a hollow cassette tool or quarter inch drive 15mm socket to pull out the centre portion of your star nut.

Once that’s out, bash out the two star portions with a flat head screw driver and a mallet (use eye protection!). That leaves you with a completely empty steerer tube with which to work.

In place of the star nut is a long bolt that runs through your steerer tube from the underside, fixing a lower assembly cap into place against the fork crown. The Threadless Carrier then threads onto this bolt from the top. Tightening the lower cap bolt to 2Nm cinches everything up, tightening the overall headset and threadless carrier assembly.

Pricing & Availability

The new OneUp EDC V2 Multitool retails at £54. That does not come with the Threadless Carrier. That is sold separately for £36.50 in seven different colorways. The eighth colorway is oil slick, which retails at the premium price point of £50.
