Cervélo just rolled out a flashy limited edition Paris Green P-Series time trial & triathlon frame kit inspired by 19th-century French impressionist and post-impressionist painters. This new Cervélo P-Series is the brand’s more affordable TT & tri bike, adapting much of the top-tier aero tech from their “fastest TT bike in the World Tour” for a broader audience, and now adding new features like internal storage and wider wheel and tire clearance.
And this limited frameset comes with the new wide Reserve 52|63 wheels that the frame we optimized for in the wind tunnel, and bonus… with matching Paris Green graphics.
Oh, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that it’s all yellow, not green.
Cervélo P-Series Paris Green limited edition TT & triathlon bike
OK, let’s get this straight. Cervélo is calling the limited edition P-Series color Paris Green because it “takes inspiration from an arsenic-based
pigment developed in the 19th century… used by Georges Seurat and Claude Monet, among others, to render vivid natural scenes in oil paintings.” So those masters of French painting used it to render hard to reproduce greens. Albeit, it seems like Wikipedia thinks that Paris Green is a lot more green than this at best acid green Cervélo P-series.
Completely off-topic, but bike industry interesting… Paris Green pigment (originally classified as the world’s first chemical insecticide) was invented in Schweinfurt, Germany where SRAM has its German engineering HQ and where tech like the latest Zipp hubs were developed. And that includes the Zipp ZR1 hubs in the limited edition wheels that come with this special frame kit.
Kinda weird fun fact.
OK, so the 2024 P-Series is completely new!
Here’s the thing. Earlier this summer Cervélo revamped both their top-tier P5 and more affordable P-Series UCI-approved time trial and triathlon bikes. It happened during the time trial stage when we were at Eurobike. And Cervélo also was not at Eurobike. So I missed both updates until now.
This new P-Series is a pretty big departure from the previous generation, as it moves closer to the range-topping P5. It still has a more conventional front end and maintains mechanical drivetrain compatibility with external cable routing entering behind the headset and a standard 1 1/8″ round steerer interface for standard stem & bar setups. But the whole seat cluster got reshaped to make for smoother airflow down into wide-set seatstays, and the same around wider fork legs.
Cervélo optimized all of it around wider 52mm deep x 25mm internal front & 63mm deep x 24mm internal rear Reserve wheels fitted with 29mm Vittoria Corsa tires to go faster – and save a claimed 3.5W.
At the same time, the new P-series also adds internal frame storage through a hatch under the downtube water bottle mount (but loses previous aero bottle compatibility).
Standard P-series framesets without wheels start at $3000. Then, complete P-series TT/tri bikes start at $3950 with mechanical 105 and go up to $7300 with Ultegra Di2 on those premium Reserve wheels like shown above.
Also a new Cervélo P5 in 2024, too
Yes, the 2024 Cervélo P5 is new, too. But the changes are less dramatic. The older version that we covered all the way back in 2019, was really just updated last summer with a slightly smoother ‘fastback’ seat cluster and bigger 34mm tire clearance – both for improved rider comfort. And both features that the new P-series inherits, as well.
The front end does get stiffer with simplification, the base bar gets a bit lower, and vertical adjustability of the aerobars increases to compensate. And Cervélo gives the top P5 a bigger 61cm size to match the wider 6-size range already offered on the more affordable P-series.
In the end, it all adds up to a claimed 1W aerodynamic improvement. And that climbs 4W more when paired with new wide Reserve 77|88 wheels with 29mm Vittoria tires, much like the shallower wheels on the P-series
Pricing is a lot higher on the more integrated and electronic-only P5. The 2024 Cervélo P5 frameset (including cockpit & seatpost) sells for $6000, the ‘cheapest’ complete build with Ultegra Di2 for $10,000, and the top-end Dura-Ace Di2 or Red AXS models for $13,500.
