The new 9point8 Stout stems are light, stiff, and offer a wider range of short sizes than most. They’re also offering more dropper seatpost offsets than anyone we’ve seen, including a reverse (forward) offset, for the new Fall Line R posts. But first, ever wonder where the name 9point8 came from? It’s the speed of gravity. Meaning, all else being equal, if you drop something, they say it’s going to fall at 9.8m/s. Kinda like you when you huck off that jump.

Their new Stout stems are made of 7075 alloy because it’s lighter and stronger than the 6061 normally used. They make them for 31.8 (30/40/50mm) and 35mm (32/40/50mm) handlebars. Note that 40mm length, it’s not a common size and a welcome addition for anyone trying to really dial in that fit. And the 32mm length for 35mm OD handlebars is because that’s the closest they could get without having to create an indented bar.
Retail is $99. Weights from 113g up to 138g with steel bolts. Or upgrade to Ti bolts for $19 more and save 14g per stem (as in, that’d put the 31.8×30 at just 99g).
The complete spacer kit (visible with all the parts in the top photo) is just $12, and the top cap with with star nut is $10 and is designed to wrap over the steerer with a little space so you don’t need another spacer above the stem.
9point8 Fall Line R finally shipping
The top-of-the-line Fall Line R series was launched last year, but is now (finally) shipping worldwide. Retail is $399, plus whichever remote you want, and those range from $25-52. They have 30.9, 31.6 and 34.9 options. Check out the full tech specs on the post here, which includes their “XC” version that lets you cut the post to length.
What’s new is this 25mm forward offset upper for the Fall Line R posts, which you can get as stock or aftermarket to switch out. They also offer a 0mm and 25mm rear offset top.
