Acros has released a new trail-ready carbon wheelset in 29″ only, with 29mm internal width rims laced to their own Nineteen XC Boost hubset. The brand tells us they’ve created what they think is the perfect wheelset for their home trails around Stuttgart, with a durable carbon rim and light-footed acceleration thanks to their featherweight hubs. A complete wheelset weighs 1500-1550g, and retails at €1,299.

The Acros Trail Carbon rims are composed of T-700 carbon fibres, laid up into an asymmetric profile with a 29mm internal width, 35mm external and a depth of 25mm. The rim is designed to seat 2.25–2.4“ wide tires in a tubeless setup. The rim gets a hookless rim flange for improved durability and puncture protection. The wheelset is shipped ready to go with tubeless valves and rim tape, and there is no specified rider weight limit.

Twenty-eight stainless steel bladed Sapim CX-Ray spokes lace the rim to the Nineteen XC hub, front and rear, though the lacing patterns differ with a Radial/3-Cross pattern at the front and a regular 3-Cross pattern on the rear. The Polyax Secure Lock nipples are aluminum.

The Nineteen XC hubset takes 6-bolt disc rotors only, and is available with Shimano HG, 11-/12-speed SRAM XD and Shimano Microspline (12 speed) freehub drivers. The hub shell itself is composed of 7075 aluminum while the freehub is hard-anodised version of the same alloy. The rear hub is driven on a 38T ratchet system, the volume of which can be tuned across three levels, from “unobtrusive” to loud.

Since 2020 i’ve been working in a bike workshop, and I can’t help but be suspicious everytime a new wheelset or hub is presented.

In this two years I’ve seen so many rear hubs completely failing not only on e-bikes but regular mountain bikes too, — from DT Swiss Hybrid (the ones marketed for e-mtb use), White Industries, Bontrager (Formula or DT), Roval, Novatec and a long list of brands — that I’m just dissapointed

To save tens of grams, years of lifespan are sacrificed
