Before the wheels have even been officially released, Alchemist’s new X-Sense rims have generated quite a bit of conversation. The wheels use a radical new design that we now know goes by the name of X Profile Tubeless. In addition to being a clever new way to address the tubeless matter, Alchemist’s new video leads us to believe that the rim is actually designed to flex to help absorb impacts.
There is certainly a lot going on with the X-Sense rims, but until the big reveal at Eurobike there are photos of the finished wheels and a few actual weights next…
The first we’ve seen of the rims and wheels other than computer generated graphics and bits of prototypes, the finished wheels seem to have the high degree of finish quality Alchenist is known for.
Fresh off the line, completed wheels check in at 588.9g for a front 29” XC (X9.26) wheel and 601.3g for a front 27.5 ENDURO (X7.33). Those numbers lead us to believe the claimed rim weights of 340g (X9.26), 355g (X7.33), and 443g (X7.44). Apparently priced lower than their RR rims, we are looking forward to getting the full scoop on the X-Sense in Germany.
If you didn’t catch our last post on the X-Sense, we know that there will be seven different rims available in the family. That includes 4 different widths including fat bike and plus size rims with the naming structure using the last number of the wheel size (7 instead of .5 of course) and the width of the rim for the second number. More when we have it.
