It appears that Alchemy has been busy. Quite busy. This year at Sea Otter they’re unveiling two completely new bikes, a substantial update to an existing model, and even more options for custom frame finishes – including in-house Cerakote.
Alchemy Argos Ti Hardtail
Named after the Argos Trail which will be directly behind Alchemy’s soon-to-be headquarters in Golden, CO, the Argos is meant to be the perfect bike of choice for said trail. Using Alchemy’s own custom blended USA titanium, the frame is built to climb the Colorado Rockies without giving up much on the downhills.
Calling it an ‘Aggressive, Trail-oriented geometry,” the Argos Ti Hardtail includes a 65º head tube angle and 75.5º seat tube angle, and offers clearance for up to 29 x 2.5″ tires.
A tapered head tube sits in front of internal cable routing ports, including routing for an internal dropper post.
The frame uses Boost 148mm dropout spacing, a threaded bottom bracket shell, and cold-forged chain stays and seat stays.
Available with custom stack & reach sizing, and various paint and build kit options, pricing starts at $3,999 for the frame only, and complete builds from $6,299-$8,299.
Pricing and Availability:
● Frame (without Fox Factory 34 Fork) – $3,999
● Frame (with Fox Factory 34 Fork) – $4,499
● Builds ranging from $6,299 to $8,299
● Available immediately
Alchemy Rogue Gravel Bike
Staying in the dirt, but a little bit faster, the new Rogue adds to the Alchemy stable. Standing alongside the existing Ronin, the new Rogue is a more capable gravel bike with a slacker head tube angle, more tire clearance, and some other nice touches.
Like a SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger. Apparently, it may be the first US-made gravel bike to include the SRAM UDH which should make it easier to find a replacement hanger in a pinch.
Handmade in Colorado from Alchemy Factory Carbon, the frame has a dropped stay design that will clear up to a 700c x 50 or 650b x 2.2″ tire.
Given the amount of gravel suspension forks we’re seeing, it’s worth pointing out that the Rogue is suspension corrected. The “progressive gravel geometry” includes a 70-71.5º head tube angle depending on the size, and a 73.5º seat tube angle.
Obviously, the frame is compatible with wireless droppers, but Alchemy states the frame is also compatible with hydraulic droppers as well.
There are three water bottle mounts, a top tube mount, the possibility for a rack mount, and fender mounts front and rear.
Like the rest of Alchemy’s lineup, there are custom paint and finish options available with pricing starting at $4,299 for the frameset module and builds from $7,999-$9,999. Alchemy is accepting reservations now with deliveries expected for November.
Arktos Full Suspension Update
It’s not just new bikes from Alchemy either. Their popular Arktos full suspension mountain bike is getting an update in the form of a new suspension flip-chip. The chip serves two purposes – it allows the rider to adjust the geometry between High and Low settings, and allows for a mixed wheel ‘MX’ setting in the High position.
The Flip Chip will be available on the Arktos 120, 135, and 150 complete bikes plus the new Arktos 135 & 150 MX builds with a 29″ front and 27.5″rear wheel.
For all three suspension travels, flipping the chip to the High setting adds 0.75º to the head tube and sea tube angle.
Moving forward, complete bikes will be offered with SRAM GX Eagle, and X01 Eagle, Shimano XT, and custom options available by request. Available this Halloween, complete bikes will start at $5,499 and will range up to $7,499.
In-house Cerakote plus new paint?
Want a more durable bike finish that’s also lighter than paint? Sounds crazy, right? But that’s what Alchemy says is possible with their new in-house Cerakote finishes. Cerakote is the name brand of a thin-film ceramic coating that is more durable than liquid paint and about 1/6th of the thickness making it lighter. The result is a lightweight finish that will stand the test of time, and one that is available in multiple colors. Along with the Cerakote, Alchemy is offering a new prismatic harlequin finish in addition to their custom paint options.
