Built by cyclists, for cyclists, Altangle Cycling was founded by Squires Smith and his brother Scott. Together after a lot of years spent “tweaking, modeling, and modifying” the door frame repair stand, the Hangar made its debut.
Squires was a collegiate cyclist that had an idea for a bicycle maintenance device that he and his teammates “needed, but never found”. Altangle hopes that they can provide that solution to cyclists looking for the same answer to their maintenance issues.
According to the website, Hangar is the first of their product line. But I see some pretty neat items as well. Like the A2 Tire Lever which looks like they are available now, and the Hangar Connect, which they call “the world’s smallest and most versatile bike stand.”
The Hangar
The hangar is a portable bicycle repair stand that has a 39.5″ “wingspan” that can be used in “almost any standard doorframe”. It’s got rubberized contact points to protect whenever doorway you decide to use it in.
It features a sleek design that makes it very small when collapsed and put away.
When the Hangar is collapsed, it measures 4.5″x4.5″x19.5″ weighing only 7lbs. Which Altangle says makes it “the most portable, compact bike maintenance station on the market”.
The clamp arm offers 360-degree rotation with 12 lock-out points. The lock-out points allow the users to position the bike in whatever way is most convenient for the task at hand.
The Hangar also has a detachable, dual-position clamp design which they say allows for “ultimate optionality when attaching your bike to the Hangar.
The clamp has a 3″ jaw opening to accommodate a variety of seat post shapes and sizes. They say it will even fit tri-bikes. The jaw has TPU inserts to offer a secure grip without damaging the frame.
All 11 core components of the Hangar are CNC machined from high-quality aluminum. and can be finished in orange or black anodizing.
The combination of components and design creates what Altangle calls “an incredibly stable connection to the doorframe”. Assembly is tool-free, quick, and easy with thoughtfully designed push-pins and hand knobs
The only catch is that the Hangar can only be used with bikes that are under 50lbs. Still, for a super portable repair stand that can be used just about anywhere there’s a door, it looks like a solid concept.
