Argon 18 Krypton Pro hits 870g & kills vibration with pro carbon layup

Argon 18 announced an all-new Krypton Pro endurance road bike for 2020. With a design informed by the Astana Pro Team at Paris-Roubaix, it’s meant for long miles and all-day comfort. With disc brakes, integrated cabling, and accommodations for mechanical and electronic shifting, it’s set to tackle the pavé or your local group ride.

The Krypton name isn’t new for Argon 18, but the 2020 Pro model has been completely revamped. With a new carbon layup schedule, Argon says that it’s aiming for an ideal blend of weight, comfort, and stiffness for long mileage riders. The frame hits 870 grams (medium, painted frame), with improved vibration damping over previous models.

A special downtube port can handle all current electronic or mechanical drivetrain components from Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo.

While the stock stem looks clean and integrated, it accepts all standard 31.8mm handlebars – and Argon 18 even says that it allows for a 2cm adjustment range of stack and reach without having to bleed the brakes.

Argon’s 3D+ system extends the head tube, with three positions available. The result is a claimed 5% increase in rigidity at 15mm of stack, or 11% at 30mm (compared to traditional spacers).

While this is an endurance-focused bike, Argon says that they took cues from their Nitrogen Disc model to improve the aero performance of the Krypton Pro.

“Aero still matters on an endurance bike. We didn’t add a single feature to this model which didn’t perform optimally across all our priority performance indicators, including aero. For example, our hidden cables offer a 2.5w savings at 300W.”

Six sizes are available, all featuring 700c wheels.

One build kit will be offered for now – an Ultegra Di2 groupset with HED carbon wheels for $7,500 complete. The Krypton Pro is available now as a 2020 model.

J and K would be stack and reach. Maybe BR chopped it off when they copied it off the website.

I do like that they considered cockpit position changes without changing hose length. Some other bikes have zero flexibility.
The rubber stem wrap is innovative, but could probably be cleaned up some. I wouldn’t put the di2 connector in the middle of the bend if I could help it.

I looked through their site and can’t find any information in regards to their “pro carbon layup”. Would love to learn more or if we have one come through soon I ll follow up.
