Officina Battaglin’s top-tier fully custom, Italian-crafted road bike is back and better than ever in this 40th anniversary limited edition Power+ EVO. As shiny as you could imagine in its unique cromovelato paint job, Battaglin has given the Power+ EVO an even sleeker integrated front end overhaul, thanks to a new lighter Italian-made fork and custom tapered headtube.
Battaglin Power+ EVO 40th E.A. modern Italian steel road bike
Debuted just last summer, Officina Battaglin’s custom steel Battaglin Power+ EVO disc brake road bike is a lust-worthy blend of classic steel and modern technologies. Already unique as the first steel bike we’d seen with completely hidden internal cable routing, this new version looks more beautiful than ever.
What’s new?
The changes are subtle, but start with an all-new full carbon fork that Battaglin had custom made for the bike. Handcrafted by WR Compositi in Bergamo based on their FK4 fork, Battaglin was happy to be able to make the bike 100% made-in Italy, finally matching the Italian Columbus steel frame to an Italian carbon fork.
A key update, the custom fork uses a tapered, D-shaped carbon steerer that allowed Battaglin to switch to a more elegant tapered headtube for a smoother profile, while still keeping hydraulic brake & electronic shift lines entirely hidden within the Deda Elementi DCR cockpit system.
An added benefit is lighter weight. The 330g custom WR-made carbon fork drops a significant 120g off the old fork, plus there’s a few more grams lost in the new headtube for a lighter frameset overall.
Limited 40th Edizione Anniversario
All bikes out of the Battaglin workshop are already limited edition, but this year is even more special as the 40th anniversary of the founding of Officina Battaglin, and of founder Giovanni Battaglin’s historic 1981 Giro-Vuelta double Grand Tour win.
So to commemorate the milestone, each bike gets a gemstone. Just 70 individually number custom Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario framesets (including complete bikes) will be built in 2021, each with a small diamond embedded in the 40° anniversary, gold-plated seat tube badge.
Tech details
Like every Battaglin bike, the updated anniversary Power+ EVO is custom made-to-measure, with each buyer consulting their bike fit personally with company owner & manager Giovanni Battaglin. The bike is built by hand in the Battaglin workshop from custom-drawn, multi-butted Columbus Spirit HSS “GB81” tubing with a mix of welded & brazed construction. It features a threaded BB, full internal routing, tapered headtube, 12mm thru-axles, flat mount disc brakes & a 27.2mm seatpost.
The Edizione Anniversario comes standard in this deep gloss cromovelato red to black fade with painted-to-match frame, fork, stem & bar (plus optional seatpost), but Battaglin also offers custom paint & other cromovelato finishes as well.
Battaglin Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario – Pricing & Availability
The Anniversary Edition bike is available only straight from Officina Battaglin for that one-on-one custom experience. The Power+ EVO Edizione Anniversario frame kit isn’t cheap at 5000€, but does include a full custom Italian steel frame and now a full carbon Italian fork, plus the made-in-Italy adjustable Deda Vinci bar & stem. Less than half of this year’s bikes are still available, and current custom frame delivery time was quoted to us at about six months.
Battaglin will also build your custom frame into a complete custom bike. Interestingly, Battaglin says they haven’t been too dramatically affected by supply shortages thanks to a few factors: a relatively low number of bikes produced annually, predictable high-end component spec, good relationships with their trusted suppliers, and a decent in-house stock of premium components.
As soon as you lay your money down on a custom frame, Battaglin will get to work making sure that all the parts are ready for the final build once the paint dries on your custom frameset.
