Coming in at a third of many other lightweight performance saddles, the new Bontrager Carbon XXX Saddle gives boutique brands a run for their money with its 68g weight. And its $379.99 price. Available only in one size, the oversized carbon rails support a 138mm x 250mm sitting area that gets a full length relief zone. No padding, but the shaping uses their InForm Biodynamics philosophy to keep it comfortable. Check the silouhette and their new Hilo tri saddles below…

68g bontrager carbon xxx saddle

It’s made in the USA using their OCLV carbon and, as they put it, is “made to be ridden” and not a show piece. The kicked up tail helps rotate the pelvis forward into a more aggressive riding position, ideal for more flexible riders.

The Hilo Pro saddle combines a full length split with dual density foam to keep you comfortable even in your bent over aero TT and triathlon race position. The shaping is designed to help keep you in that forward pelvic rotation, and the shell and carbon rails add more compliance so it won’t beat you up. It retails for $229.99, measures 134mm x 240mm and weighs a claimed 236g. Add the Integrated Speed Storage shown in the top pic for $119.99 and get a bag that fits one tube, lever, CO2 and multitool, plus mounts for up to two water bottles.

Opt for the $119.99 Hilo Comp saddle and get all the same features, but with chromoly steel rails. Weight on that one is 331g.

@VeloKitty
The Selle Italia one is only 128mm wide, which is really narrow.
The Bontrager is 138mm so is getting towards the “actually usable” spectrum.

The texture on the Bontrager one is interesting though, the matte seems like it would be less slippery than the gloss Selle.

No disrespect to Selle Italia, I actually ride one of their saddles. Just not a 68g one.

Yikes it’s $840 to boot. I thought $380 was pricey for the Bontrager.

I have this bontrager xxx saddle on my Emonda and I was skeptical (it was spec’d on the slr version) but decided to try it before swapping out. Now I have no desire to swap it out. It’s shockingly comfortable. Have about 1,000 miles on it, with rides ranging from 1 to 4 hours, and it is never a limiting factor for me. It is as comfortable in hour 4 as it is in hour 1. It is a little slick compared to my last road saddle, and I nearly slid off the back my first ride, but once you get a feel for it, it has not happened since. I wouldn’t choose it for the Dirty Kanza, but I still suspect other parts of me (neck, back, hands) would experience discomfort before my butt. Really love this saddle. It has won over a skeptic. I should add that I’m 190 lbs too, so it is not fragile!
