Cannondale revives the legendary SuperX name for its latest gravel/cyclocross machine. No—it’s not an all-new design, but the mouthful of a name (The Cannondale SuperSix EVO CX or SE) didn’t seem to stick. So they went back to the name that made this bike famous. But this updated SuperX looks more like an aero road machine rather than the alloy cyclocross bike it started as—and we like it.

Cannondale SuperX – Whats new?

The updated Cannondale SuperX is a race-through breed designed for those who seek speed on gravel or between the tape. The updated frame sees many changes, the most notable being the sculpted tubes and tucked rear wheel. The frameset has undergone a slimming down process and refinement rather than a full-on redesign.

The engineering team at Cannondale reassured us that the SuperX ride racers love still remains, yet the new frame is more comfortable overall, fits larger tires, and is more aerodynamic (about 1.6 watts faster at 35kph)

Delta Steerer

Like the European SuperSix Evo CX models we saw last year (and some warranty forks), the new SuperX receives the Delta triangle steer tube. This update grants full internal cable routing to the new frame, giving it a much cleaner look (and less places for mud to hide). The Delta steer tube works seamlessly with the Cannondale Conceal stem and one-piece bar systems.

Until now, we’ve only seen the Delta steerer on the Cannondale Super Six Evo road bike and the European Super Six Evo offerings. Will the Delta steerer be able to keep pace with American gravel courses? Only time will tell, but we imagine that with years of world tour use and abuse under Team EF, it should be just fine.

The Cover up

A new addition to the SuperX frame is a slick top tube mount and cover. For those that need the extra snack holder – you’re good to go, and you can cover up for cyclocross races.

Easy to Live With

My favorite updates are the “easy to live with”  ones Cannondale snuck in. The new SuperX uses a BSA threaded bottom bracket and NON-Ai dished rear wheel. This means you are now free to switch wheels between your road bike and SuperX again. So start re-dishing those rear wheels from CX season now.

LAB71 SuperX – The Sub-900g Race Monster

If “light is fast” is your gravel mantra, the LAB71 SuperX is the one to bookmark. The top-tier Cannondale LAB71 comes in at sub-900g for a frame (size 56cm). Cannondale squeezed every gram out using an advanced nano-resin composite, cutting down excess where possible. The result is a super lightweight frame (and consequently, bike) to tackle your wildest travel dreams.

Dialed (Unchanged) Geometry & Big Tire Clearance

If it ain’t broke… don’t fix it. That can surely be said about Cannondale SuperX (and SuperSix EVO) geometry. This is the same bike that won an elite USA National cyclocross championship and Unbound. Its ride and handling are hailed extensively amongst all walks of drop-bar off-roadies alike. So Cannondale let it be. They even kept the top tube nice and shoulder-friendly for those cyclocross folks.

For those unfamiliar, the SuperX geometry is race-focused. It incorporates Cannondale’s OutFront steering design and predictable, precise steering.

Tire-wise, the newly minted SuperX frame can accommodate 51mm tires up front and 48mm in the rear, with plenty of space for mud clearance.

Size-Specific Performance with Proportional Response

Cannondale knows that one-size-fits-all doesn’t cut it in high-performance racing. With their Proportional Response design, every SuperX frame gets customized tube profiles and carbon layups, ensuring that every size (46cm–61cm) hits the perfect balance of weight, stiffness, and durability.

Cannondale SuperX Models & Availability

The new SuperX lineup includes three standard builds plus a limited-run LAB71 complete bike and frameset. Builds range from Shimano GRX mechanical to start and up to SRAM RED XPLR to top the charts.

As a mechanic that has worked on a couple of bikes with the Delta steerer I am not a fan of it. If not assembled properly the hoses can get smashed and kinked. That System R bar by Momo is not mechanic friendly either.

I’ve been riding the Euro Evo CX with Delta off-road for quite a while now, and although Delta is somewhat more inconvenient to set up initially than an external system, I do think it’s the most painless internal system I’ve used. Through quite a few tear-downs for travel the hoses have remained in good condition, and the bearings seem to be protected enough to have survived the cross season intact. I imagine SuperX will do at least as good a job of those aspects.

Doesn’t that mean more pay for you?

I’m guessing this the bike that Lachlan Morton rode during the ‘Lap of Australia’ where some press had it pegged it as the possible Synapse update?

Would require a way to quickly swap handlebar.

Do we think that a 2022-24 SuperSix Evo SE could be retrofitted with the new fork and conceal stem?

I wonder how one would order just a fork from Cannondale? The stems appear easy enough to find.

let me make it simple for you. You have better luck braking your frame to pieces and getting a replacement discounted frame with the new fork, It is but almost impossible to get through the PON distribution system…

But to be clear, your frame was always made to receive the delta.
