As much as I love Clif Bar as a company and their new nut butter filled bars, their Builders protein bars have never worked for me. Largely soy based, they simply didn’t get along with my stomach. Now, they’re offering a new Whey Protein Bar that combines whey protein concentrate and isolate with a small amount of pea and brown rice proteins, nut butters, rolled oats and just a little sugar.
Three flavors will be offered – Salted Caramel Cashew, Coconut Almond Chocolate, and Peanut Butter & Chocolate. All three have 14g of protein and just 5g of sugar, with no sugar alcohols or artificial sweeteners. And all ingredients are non-GMO, too…

There’s also a new Luna Protein flavor (Chocolate Walnut Fudge, which is delicious and is gluten free) with 12g protein that joins six other flavors already available. And a new line of Z-Bar Protein bars for kids, with smaller portion sizes and a bit more carbs and sugar, making them more of a healthy snack than full on recovery product. Retail will be $1.99, they should be available in January (they’re not on Clif Bar’s website as of this post).
